A Plesant Surprise - Great value

by   laryh ,  Dec 12, 2006
Pros: Quiet, reliable, fast and quick 1st page output.
Cons: Flimsy manual input tray, light copies.
The Bottom Line: Want a fast quiet MFP that will stand up to daily use, with versatile double-sided printing and ADF? Buy the MFC-8660 DN
Review: I bought the MFC-8660 DN to replace an aging (and slow) Xerox XD-100. I was a little skeptical at first because some of the doors, trays, etc. on the Brother looked a little "flimsy" and I thought "this thing will break real soon". That was six months ...

Excellent MFC, easy install, flawless duplex

by   inhislove4ever ,  Sep 17, 2006
Pros: Very fast; duplex capability; USB, Parallel, and ethernet connections; and its a laser.
Cons: No color support, but those run another $300 at the minimum.
The Bottom Line: The speed and duplex capability of this printer are excellent. We haven't had a problem with paper jams. The control center is very easy to use.
Review: We purchased this product about 3 months ago. We bought this product because my wife wanted the duplex capability for home-schooling. We love the speed and ease of us for this product. We have a 4ppm HP Laserjet 4P that I bought while in college 12 ...

Best investment I've made in office equipment

by   markon88 ,  May 30, 2006
Pros: Duplexing (front-back printing & scanning), Easy front panel controls, Speed (30 ppm), large output tray
Cons: Multi-purpose tray is a little flimsy, but with care works fine
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend this unit. Smooth operation, easy to use, does everything well, and affordable. As a MFC, this unit shines.
Review: We have the 8860 DN in our small home office for about a month now and are very, very pleased. The page counter is over 2000 and we haven't had a single paper jam, even when we used a special paper that typical jams in our printer. We have used it ...

excellent performer

by   freddie2 ,  Aug 7, 2008
Pros: quick, good paper handling, easy to use
Cons: print is a bit light, but is adjustable. Munches envelopes - curls output, otherwise excellent!
The Bottom Line: Because of the multiple functions, this can replace several desktop stand-alone units, and works well at all tasks except envelopes.
Review: This MFC-8860DN works extremely well. I was able to eliminate my (just died) fax machine plus an old laser printer/sheet scanner with this one machine. Scanner on the laser had just died too when this MFC came up on Craigslist second-hand, so it worked ...

I love it

by   scottlharris ,  Jan 19, 2007
Pros: reliable and full featured
Cons: need to use at least 24lb stock...otherwise pages may curl.
Review: I've had this MFD for about 6 months now. I think it was a great purchase. I have it plugged in to my network and love how I can scan to pdf. It integrates nicely with Outlook email. Before I got the Brother MFD, I bought a similar HP for my business. ...

Happy so far

by   deltarp ,  Sep 18, 2006
Pros: fast, and quiet, with ease of setup
Cons: Absolutely none so far,
Review: I bought the Brother MFC-8860DN after considerable research, and experience with HP and Minolta QMS printers. I just picked it up today, and so far am most impressed. It is fast, quite, and copy quality is excellent. I was particularly happy with the ...

Print Everywhere (even on the road!)

by   endurance ,  Jun 13, 2007
Pros: Fast, Good Features, Good Operating System Support, Networked.
Cons: Price, Tricky Envelope Printing..
The Bottom Line: If your in need of a always on printer for your wired/wireless network, snag this.
Review: This printer has network options which came in very handy, and were one of the reasons I got the printer - my old Laerjet 1000, was not compatible with OSX and going to XP just to print was becoming a pain. While I saw other lower priced ...

Expensive to run

by   fishcad ,  Jul 9, 2008
Pros: Features
Cons: Cartridges are expensive. Print quality is not up to HP standards.
Review: Don't get this machine if you like to use the toner cartridge until you see the print quality diminish. This machine will suddenly decide that the toner cartridge is empty and completely stop. You MUST replace the cartridge before it will print again. ...

DOES NOT DUPLEX COPY 8860DN

by   richdayton ,  Feb 25, 2008
Pros: Except for duplex it works great.
Cons: Deceptive advertising re: duplex copying
Review: Despite the advertising and user guide for model 8860DN the machine does NOT duplex copy without first scanning the papers and then duplex printing. Once you turn on the scanner the bulb stays on for 16 HOURS yes HOURS or you shorten the life again per ...

Bad out of the box

by   wjmeng ,  Feb 14, 2007
Pros: If it works, it's fast with good quality.
Cons: It doesn't work reliably and service is horrible. Long wait on help line.
Review: I purchased the MFC8860DN to replace a HP multifunction that was 3 years old and too slow and expensive for my needs. The Brother was easy to set up and I had it connected and ready to go in about 20 minutes, but when I turned it on I immediately got a ...
