Author's Review
I bought this car based on all of the good reviews here and the fact that it is rated #1 for safety. It is a bit expensive but you cant put a price on the safety of your child.
It is a convertible car seat - meaning it can be used Rear facing for children 12 months and younger weighing 5 to 33lbs. - Forward facing when the child reaches a year and weighs between 20 and 40 lbs.
The car seat comes in 9 colors. (Cascade, Denim, Jefferson Tan, Microdot Gray, Popsicle, Sandstone, Spruce, Teddy, and Top Cat) The seat I purchased was Cascade. This is not the color that I wanted, but the only one the store had. Fortunately you can order new covers, and any other parts you may need at the Britax web site (http://www.britaxusa.com)I went to the site the same day and ordered the Denim cover. I havent gotten it yet so I cant comment on it. I may end up getting the Popsicle pattern as well. This is one of the few patterns I have seen that is pastel colors (for little girls.
The Cascade fabric is nice; I am just not a big fan of brown. The fabric is very soft and there is so much more padding on this car seat. It is like a little Lazy boy! I wish They made one for adults
It is a bit difficult on the first try to get the car seat hooked in the car in the rear facing position, the place where the belt goes it a bit awkward to get to and get the belt through. In the car that I have it in now (2002 GMC Envoy) as with most newer cars, if you pull the seatbelt all the way out it then locks the retractor. When putting this seat in the first few times I found that I had to pull the seatbelt all the way out to get it though the car seat and then the belt would retract and lock so I would end up having to undo it because it was not in the right position. By the 3rd time of trying to get it in right I got the hang of it. I am now able to put the car seat in with ease.
I really like the belt lock off clips! They allow you to secure the car seat really well! Also the Velcro on the harness keeps the straps out of the way when you are putting your child in the seat.
I love that the latch connectors stay on the car seat so you can use them when you need them and hide them when you don't. I have yet to use the latch system or the seat in the forward facing positions so I cant speak to the ease of use.
It is also very smart that the user's guide is attached to the car seat and stores under the foam padding.
My daughter really seems to love this car seat so far. I have only had it for about a week. She is excited to get to sit up and look at the world! We had been using the Graco Snugride car seat - which is a good car seat, but I think they could learn a few things from Britax!
