Drink Responsibly - Not just for liquor anymore!

Why I bought this
At the time of purchase, I was renting a bedroom in a house where I kept a mini-fridge and wanted a way to keep a cold water source without having to disturb my landlords every few hours to use their kitchen. The slim size of this pitcher fits nicely in any refrigerator and still leaves plenty of room.

I also am not a big fan of purchasing case after case of pre-bottled water. This is very ecologically irresponsible, as it creates tons and tons of non-biodegradable landfill waste.

Preaching aside, the Brita Slim Pitcher Water Filter is a great place to store a full pitcher of clean, filtered water in a very small refrigerator space.

My life with Brita
Because I didn't have constant access to a sink without feeling like I was disturbing my landlord's family, I loved being able to go to my little mini-fridge to pour myself a cold, clean glass of water. I could fill it up at night when everyone was asleep and have all the water I needed for the next day.

If you've never used any kind of water filter product before, there are a few things you have to get used to, though:

1. There's a little work required upon first use of each filter.
2. You have to run 2-3 full amounts of water through the filter to clear out any loose charcoal filter dust which can be a bit startling at first. You first few pitchers of water will be a dirty dishwater grey color. But take heart! That's supposed to happen. After a couple cycles, your filter's ready to go.
3. Filters only last up to four months or less depending on use. This is the case with almost every water filter. They can be a bit pricey, but you should only have to change them about four times a year. Brita makes a 4 pack of filters that should set you up for 1 full year.

The filter takes about 15 minutes to fill from the filling compartment, through the filter, and into the holding pitcher.

Water quality
I'm not a scientist and as a stage designer and technician/writer, I don't really have the required tools to study exactly what's in the water after it runs through the filter. I take it on faith that it does the job it's meant to do. Remove harmful chemicals and particulates from my water.

I love the taste of the water. It's sweet and tastes just as good, if not better than your average bottle of water, which after a year, costs astronomically more than you would for your little four filters for Brita pitcher.
