Great Wok

This is an excellent wok. I was a bit wary because I was not familiar with the Breville name. I had purchased a few "name brand" electric skillets for stir frying and they turned out to be dismal disappointments and a complete waste of money. The Teflon surface on those cheaper items scratched off with the slightest cooking mistake. So, I decided to saute' some vegetables as my first cooking experience with the Breville. And because it heated so fast, some corn stuck to the bottom. Fearing disaster, I used the included spatula to loosen the burnt corn. All I found were a couple of slight line marks in the non-stick surface. Apparently it is quite thick.

I was impressed by the weight of the wok. It is heavy, therefore heats evenly. As I said, it heats up fast. It has a nice thermostat - in fact, one of the nicest I've seen. There was obviously some engineering thought put into the design. If you ever injured your hand trying to disconnect the thermostat from most electric skillets, you will love this wok. It has a spring loaded disconnect lever that releases the thermostat from the cooking base with little effort.

The glass lid has a steam vent, is easy to clean and looks great. The wok itself disconnects from the base with a twist of a knob. Both the lid and the wok are dishwasher safe. I have found no need to put either item in the dishwasher because it is so easy to clean with warm soapy water and then drying it with a dish towel.

This has become my favorite cooking utensil and after almost daily use for over a month, it still looks new.

3/20/07 - Wok is still working great. Cooking surface is still non-stick, almost no wear after prodigious usage.
