Metal of the new millennium: Staind’s tortured souls don’t cycle through old tricks

by   blackstar40 ,  Jan 1, 2006
Pros: Every song is a standout. Expression. Pain. Introspection
Cons: 'Safe Place’
The Bottom Line: A landmark.
Review: When you’re an up-and-coming metal band from Massachusetts, and your new CD suddenly sells over half a million copies in it’s first week of release, and spawns five hit singles, it’s probably a good reason to be genuinely surprised. Remember, this was ...

Aaron Lewis talented writer and singer!

by   curen ,  Sep 28, 2001
Pros: There are 4 excellent songs, the rest are just good!
Cons: Aaron Lewis’s voice is a bit depressing, but very good!!
The Bottom Line: The music is wonderful, apart from Aaron Lewis tends to make the songs sound more depressing than they should be.
Review: Introduction:

I have read other people’s opinions such as Nic60 on this album- Staind- Break The Cycle and if I seen mixed reactions to it, some like it others just don’t seem to like it, personally I think this is a wonderful album...

Its Been Awhile since I've heard music this good

by   guigui715 ,  Jun 24, 2001
Pros: good blend of music, both soft and hard
Cons: not any I can think of
The Bottom Line: This CD has a blend of heavy metal head banging music and soft poetic songs that make you think. If you liked their first CD you'll love it.
Review: I was originally introduced to Staind simply by listening to the radio and when I heard their first single, Mudshovel, off of their first CD, Dysfunction, I became hooked. This new CD, Break The Cycle, is definitely as good as if not better than their...

This must be a Wonderful blessing.....

by   lptheory ,  Apr 7, 2003
Pros: lyrics, true to the emotions that are being conveyed
Cons: some of the erm..."bellowing/screaming"
The Bottom Line: Buy it- if only because you think you may like it. You'll enjoy the fact that it's not pop.
Review: Hmm...blessing. From all the pop sh!t that is cramming my radio- that's exactly what Staind is doing. Saving me from more syruppy pop-synth garbage that is coming around in a never ending apocolyptic shmorgasborg. Well, with that being said, let's find...

Feeling a minority........

by   nic60 ,  Sep 22, 2001
Pros: Some excellent songwriting and many great tracks.
Cons: Aaron Lewis' manc depression gets a bit much at times.
The Bottom Line: If you put Aaron's manic depression aside and listen to the music then you'll love it.
Review: ......after reading some of the comments on reviews of Break the Cycle, even though it is 89% recommended. It seems that some people just aren't hearing what I hear from this album, which in my opinion, is generally fantastic. So here is my review....

They Broke the Cycle when they made this album.

by   brnagnwiccan ,  Apr 11, 2002
Pros: Powerful lyrics. A new side of StainD.
Cons: Very mellow, grab a box of Kleenex.
The Bottom Line: This is an excellent CD. It definitely belongs in every rock lover's collection.
Review: "Wow," was the only thing I could say when I first listened to this album. The lyrics and music combined showed that even slower rock music can be extremely powerful. It strayed away from the hardness of their first album, but their music did not...

Powerful! emotional! strong!

by   sandslugg ,  May 7, 2002
Pros: Great emotion in the songs.
Cons: Couple songs are slightly too hard for me.
The Bottom Line: If you like powerful rock with passion then this is a must have. If your a Creed fan you'll really like this. Consider the non-expict version though.
Review: I like many types of music ranging from Jazz to Metallica to TheyMightBeGiants. I would say if you are wondering what style of music this is I would compare their sound to Creed although they are a bit darker. I like most of Creeds stuff. This albmun...

Opening Your Eyes

by   samefourwalls ,  Jan 12, 2002
Pros: Great lyrics and sound.
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: It's all in the review.
Review: Break The Cycle is Staind's third release to date, following Tormented and Dysfunction.

The CD starts out with mid-tempo "Open Your Eyes". The lyrics are more observational than most of there songs. Although not one of my very favorite songs...

Aaron Lewis And The Boys

by   dmfokjf ,  Jun 3, 2001
Pros: Good Vocals, Guitars
Cons: Some Bad Songs
The Bottom Line: ITS A GREAT ALBUM SO GO BUY IT! WHAT MORE COULD ANYONE SAY???
Review: Staind, just released its newest album a few weeks ago. This is a band that came out in 1999. This, being their second album and did not disappoint its fans. Dysfunction, their first album went platinum and had many hits for hardcore rock and roll fans....

Staind.. a great band

by   bliley_10 ,  Jun 5, 2001
Pros: Great music, good rhythm, good lyrics
Cons: Too mellow, not enough metal
The Bottom Line: I love Staind so I will be partial to them.. I love this CD and I think many people would enjoy it.. so BUY it!
Review: I'm going to be honest with you. I had never heard of Staind until I listened to "Outside" and "It's Been Awhile". But after I listened to this music, I fell in love with it. I love their melodious tone.. the way they express themselves. Their lyrics...
