Product Review

Worth your time

Pros:  Good follow up, historical perspective

Cons:  Short, a little boring for the non-historical

Overall Rating: 3/5 stars

Author's Review

For those of us who enjoyed "Brave New World", few books have been able to come close to eliciting the same emotions and thoughts. "Brave New World, Revisited" does not. It is a historical study of what was happening 30 some years after the publishing of "BNW". Don't look for another iconoclast rebelling against the evils of the collective, it's the 50's and this was a mainstream work. What the book does have to say is good.
This slim volume is a great follow up for "BNW", probably best read a within a month of finishing the novel. It is much like reading Hunter S. Thompson's "Non-Fiction" (Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail, Generation Swine) when combined with the original work. Sort of "This is what Huxley means, and this is why". Although the writing style is rather dry, it is still Huxley-esque, and you'll be able to appreciate the bone dry wit and cutting analysis. A strongly recommended book to follow this up with is "The Doors of Perception", which is an amusing counterpoint to the arguments against Soma.
If you enjoy a drug, isn't that a form of pacification?
