Decent but not amazing
Date of Review: Sep 6, 2007
The Bottom Line: It's a decent razor if you can get it at a discount price, but factor in spending upwards of $75/year on fluid and a replacement foil.
I received this shaver for my birthday three years ago. It's a decent razor but I have a few issues. Specifically:
It gets dirty with absolutely no use at all. I only shave every few days and after I've cleaned it, a few days later the digital indicator indicates it's dirty. If I don't use it for a week for some reason, the cleaner tells me it needs a massive cleaning. I assume it's oxidation causing this, but it's still annoying. For this reason, you can't keep the cleaning button on, otherwise it will be cleaning all the time and the cleaning fluid isn't cheap.
Also it's becoming difficult to find replacement foils. I used to purchase them from Amazon once a year, but Amazon no longer carries them. It is still easy to get cleaning fluid at least.
It's extremely noisy when cleaning. So much so that I don't turn it on to clean at night for fear of waking my daughter who's room is adjacent to the bathroom.
The shave shave isn't all that close, I spend a lot of time going over the same areas and pulling my skin in every direction. When I need a really close shave, I resort to using a real razor, which isn't advised by hard-core electric shaver gurus that claim using only an electric shaver will make your skin appear healthier since you're no longer removing layers of skin. I've noticed no skin improvement however.
On the positive side, I love the self cleaning. There is absolutely NO WAY I'd ever clean an electric razor myself, so this is a god-send.
It's also extremely convenient and doesn't burn my skin.
