Author's Review
I have been using the Braun 8995 for 4 weeks now after switching from my old Norelco, and I love the new Braun. With my old shaver I had to shave with a real razor twice a week because of the areas that it could not get, since using the Braun I have only used a real razor once, and that was by choice not out of necessity. The Braun does not shave as close as a razor as some of the reviews state, but I think that is something that is different for each user. I have a heavy beard and the Braun does a great job with the shave, I even went two days with out shaving and it was a great shave. On the old shaver I could not use it to shave after missing two days because it was too painful I would have to use a real razor, and this one was not painful and the shave at the end of the day was just as good as any other day. I also really like the trimmer, I only use it for the sideburns and it does a great job unlike my old shaver that I was lucky to get a straight cut because the blade was so small. I do have to be fair the razor does have a couple of areas for improvement. First it is really noisy, as is the cleaning process. The second is the price, I paid $150 for it through J&R. The third is the footprint for the cleaning base, it is about 4-5" in diameter, and I have a really small bathroom where I keep it. The cleaning is great, although be sure you are done shaving before starting the cleaning as it is locked in the base for 30-60 minutes. I have to say if I had to do this again I would in a heartbeat. But I would caution anyone with face irritations that this could be an issue, my brother had a Braun and had to stop using it because it was cutting his face and has switched to a Norelco which does not irritate his face.
