Author's Review
We are on our third year of receiving The Bottom Line. I have to admit that I was pretty skeptical of this magazine when my husband first ordered it. Now, I'm hooked.
As a mother of two small children with not a whole lot of extra time on my hands, I can really appreciate the Bottom Line. This magazine offers small paragraphs of information about a variety of topics. Each issue also has 8-10 short articles ranging from financial advice to health advice to parenting tips. It is reading material that is interesting and helpful but one that you can easily put down if needed.
The Bottom Line offers many tips and suggestions. There is always a checklist of things you should look into for the month. For example in the May 1, 2000 issue the May checklist, it has 8 helpful hints. One of these is to be sure to buy marigolds and other annuals with unopened buds because they will develop faster than those plants with flowers. Interesting and helpful little tidbit.
To give you an idea of the variety of the topics and the diversity of authors, here are some of the articles found in the May 1st issue:
1. "Opportunities! Important--Learn from the Mistakes of Others" written by Barry Farber
2. "Stock Investors..Time to Focus on Bonds" written by Roger Klein of the Interest Rate Futures Research Corporation
3. "Secrets From Hollywood for Getting in Shape Fast" written by Greg Isaacs, the director of fitness at Warner Bros Studios
4. "Parenting Positively: Advice on Raising Happy Children" written by John Gray, author of Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus
5. "How to Save Big Money...Prevent Big Travel Hassles...and Enjoy Yourself Big Time" written by Deborah Burns, author and editor for Storey Books
As you can see, there is quite a range of topics. In addition to these full articles, the Bottom Line also offers short paragraphs of information scattered throughout the periodical. It is great!! So easy to read.
Another great feature of this magazine is that there are no advertisements. Of course, this is also a negative aspect because it then raises the cost of the magazine to $4 an issue if bought at a store. We do have a subscription. The cost for one year (24 issues) is $49. The magazine is short (just 16 pages in the May 1st issue) but it is jam-packed full of information and ideas.
I would highly recommend the Bottom Line Personal to anyone who may be considering ordering it. There is something valuable in it for everyone. Because of it's diversity it is a magazine that everyone would enjoy. It is a well-balanced, informative periodical. It truly does give you "the bottom line" on many topics.
