Author's Review
David Kelley (writer) keeps the good times rolling in season 2 of Boston Legal. The 1st season was only 17 episodes, while season 2 is 27 episodes meaning more laughs.
And Kelley is one of the few writers who can make death funny. Catherine Piper (Betty White) stops a want-to-be serial killer with a frying pan, which is exactly how he killed his first victim.
A lawyer who does not make partner, Jerry Espenson, threatens the life of Shirley Schmidt (Candice Bergen), and his asperger syndrome becomes exposed during trial. In the episode he is at a congratulations party for Brad Chase (Mark Valley) who did make partner and picks up the cake knife, covererd in frosting and points it at Shirley. This isn't the last we see of Jerry though, who hires Allan several more times to defend him for having a blow-up doll in the carpool lane and other crazy things. Allan helps Jerry by putting him in touch with a sexpert.
Shirley moves on from the traumatic death threat by rekindling her romance with Ivan Tiggs (Tom Selleck), her ex-husband. She later finds out that he lied to her about seperating from his current wife and has the two of them write up a postnup.
Allan Shore and Denny Crane (James Spader and William Shatner) take turns bailing each other out of trouble. In one episode Denny attacks a homeless person. In another he cheats on his wife who he has only been married to an hour. Denny shoots a man to save Allan. Denny also gives a wonderful closing to prevent his friend from going to jail over telling a client to flee.
Allan has horrible night terrors and persuades his assistant Melissa to sleep over. However, in stopping Allan from sleep walking and struggling with the terror she comes to find that she cares deeply for him. Unfortunately the two never get together and in the last episode of the season she finds him making love to another partner.
In season 2 Denise (Julie Bowen) comes aboard. She defends Daniel Post (Michael J. Fox) in a cancer drug's clinical trial, which he should not have been involved in. The two end up getting together and falling in love. Denise struggles with the emotions that the man she loves is dying and falls into the arms of Brad. This is the hottest thing that happens all season. Unfortunately, just as soon as the romance begins it ends with Daniel's proposal to Denise.
There's a lot of romance, drama, and laughs in season 2. If you like it, you should continue watching Tuesdays at 10pm (Eastern) on ABC.
