Not For Jazz

Date of Review: Feb 6, 2007

Do not buy this system if you intend to store and listen to jazz CD's. Unlike my ancient CD changer, the Bose system has no way of compensating for different volume output levels on CD's. The Bose customer service people (1-800-905-2138...call and ask them yourself) admit this is a problem....but only with jazz CD's, which apparently have greatly varied volume outputs, even very recently released ones. Since one of the selling points of the system is the fact that it can store thousands of individual songs and play them randomly, the result with jazz CD's is that you have to carry the remote around with you to make constant manual adjustments in volume levels. Not exactly the most relaxing way to listen to music. Why the Bose system, which costs thousands of dollars, can't do what my cheap old CD changer could do is mystifying. But, whatever the reason, if you like jazz be warned: this system will render your collection virtually useless.

Pros
Crisp, sharp sound.
Cons
See review above. Also, some routine procedures are unnecessarily complicated.
