Good Sound, Little Package
Date of Review: Apr 25, 2006
The Bottom Line: I believe that these speakers are a good balance of design, features, and audio quality. For their size and price, they'd be hard to beat.
I use these speakers whenever I travel, which is about 7 days per month. I like their sleek silver finish, which matches most laptop finishes. They have a very simplistic design, and are very easy to use. They simply have a volume knob and a headphone jack. Plain and simple. However the sound that these speakers produce are far from plain and simple. I am constantly amazed with the audio quality that these things produce.
Bose has always been known for producing quality audio from compact designs. These are no exception. The high ends are nice and crisp, and the low ends are surprisingly defined.
The one thing that I wished these speakers had are a 1/8" stereo mini input jack. Since most people are going to use these with laptops or portable audio devices, it'd seem to be the natural choice for input options. However the input on these speakers are RCA audio. So you'd need to have a 1/8" stereo mini to RCA cable. It does have two RCA inputs, so you could connect 2 independent audio devices.
Also another minor annoyance is the large brick type AC adapter. So be prepared to take up a large amount of space on your wall or surge protector.
These speakers are a bit heavy, but all that means is a larger magnet driving the speakers. Although not always the case: larger magnet = more powerful speaker = better sound. So it's an easy trade off.
