Author's Review
I expected the sound to be crisp, clear and "Bose-like", but having said that - this product has exceeded my expectations.
Let me explain: The first Bose product I owned were the in-ear headphones for my iPod. I was blown away by the sound quality and finally understood how Bose acquired their reputation for premium sound. When I decided I needed speakers for my room, naturally I looked into the Bose SoundDock. I had to debate on it for a week or so because of price, but I couldn't bear the thought of rockin out to the rich sound in my earphones, then docking my iPod in so-so sounding speakers - SO I bought the Bose.
So if I expected all the goodness, how can I be so impressed? My house is 1700 sq ft 2 story house with a 16ft cathedral ceiling in the living and dining room. I placed the SoundDock in the corner of my living facing the rest of my house and when I crank this bad boy, I can still hear every single word and clarity in the music IN MY WHOLE HOUSE. Maybe it's because of the accoustics of the cathedral ceiling that carry it, but I certainly didn't expect to get my house filled with music from my iPod - not to mention with Bose clarity. Don't get me wrong, you can hear more details in the music when you're in the same room, but the quality of sound upstairs in another room simply astounded me.
My music taste is very vast, I have everything from Beastie Boys to Celine Dion to Marilyn Manson to Garth Brooks to Yanni. All genres of music sound great on this thing. I find that the older music doesn't have the clarity of today's music, but that's due to recording technology, not the SoundDock.
Two cons:
1) When I whip out the Akon or Eminem, I sometimes wish the bass was more present, and there are no equalizer controls to boost it when you want that little extra bump. I rarely have this problem, typically it's perfect.
2) The remote only works in the current playlist.
