There seem to be very few drawbacks and for most part I have only good things to report about Bose around-ear Professional Headphones.

Sound reproduction performance with regards these around-ear Bose Professional Headphones is more of a qualitative attribute than a quantitative attribute. Subjectively speaking, these Bose around-ear Professional Headphones sound absolutely wonderful. These Bose headphones offer great reproduction of both bass and high frequencies, with excellent balance. Bass boost feature just isn't needed with these headphones, and the manual explicitly states that bass boost should not be used with these headphones.

These Bose around-ear headphones boast 97dB/1mW sensitivity. This means that not very much power is needed for them to make a respectable output of sound. This means that the Bose around-ear Professional Headphones should work very well when paired with some of today’s "low output" digital devices such as miniature mp3 players, iPod, etc. Their sensitivity is likely due to the (probably) relatively small drivers when compared to the similarly priced professional Sony headphones which are able to handle 10 times the power input, but as I said before, Bose around-ear Professional Headphones have half the resistance of the similarly priced Sony headphones, so they are ideal for use with low power portable devices such as an mp3 player, iPod, or portable CD/DVD player, laptop computer, etc.

Although these Bose around-ear Professional Headphones are ideal for low power portable devices, they are compatible with a wide variety of devices and come with a 1/8" to 1/4" adaptor. These headphones will work with both a standard 1/8" headphone jack common on portable audio devices, and come with an adapter that will allow them to plug in to 1/4" headphone jacks common on home stereo equipment.

According to Bose supplied specifications, these headphones weigh a mere 5 oz. or just 142 grams. The Bose around-ear Professional Headphones are quite svelte for around-ear phones; the similarly priced Sony MDR7506 weighs in at a bulky 8+ oz. The light weight of the Bose around-ear Professional Headphones likely contribute to the comfort of wearing them; the Bose around-ear Professional Headphones are comfortable even for long periods of listening. The soft pliable ear cushions also contribute to the comfort of wearing the Bose around-ear Professional Headphones for hours at a time. Listening for extended periods of time on the Bose around-ear Professional Headphones does not seem to be a problem at all and is in fact quite comfortable and enjoyable.

Some people might balk at the prospect of purchasing headphones which cost more than $100, but there are plenty of other headphones out there that are also quite pricey, some costing much more than the Bose around-ear Professional Headphones. Some professional headphones from Sony can cost approximately $300 a pair, making the Bose around-ear Professional Headphones appear to be quite competitively priced and a good value. Though they are manufactured in China, these headphones boast an excellent overall build quality, with the exception of the replaceable ear cushions; keyword "replaceable", ear cushions.

One of the few draw backs is that the Bose ear cushions eventually wore out after over a year's worth of heavy use by both my mother and I. The manual mentions that these cushions are subject to wear and tear and the replaceable ear cushions are easily replaced and replacement supplied free of charge under Bose warranty. This leads me to believe that Bose is really serious about warranty issues and good about supporting their product. I think it is fair to say these Bose around-ear Professional Headphones come with an excellent warranty, which is rather difficult to find these days from some other manufacturers out there.

In conclusion, the Bose around-ear Professional Headphones are highly recommended, especially if they are going to be used with today's popular low output digital devices such as an mp3 player or iPod. These Bose around-ear Professional Headphones are high quality, competitively priced, light and comfortable, and come with an excellent warranty.
