Very good system for those with little space
Date of Review: Jul 24, 2002
The Bottom Line: Great system for those who have little space or wish not to see big speakers.
The Acoustimass 3 series is perfect for those who want quality performance without speakers which take up a lot of space.
Package: When you unpack the AM3s from the box, you will find;
- The Acoustimass Module
- Two cube speakers
- 4 speaker cables, each 20 feet long
Setup: The setup of this system is pretty easy. Two of the speaker cables go from the receiver to the Acoustimass Module, and then the other two speaker cables go to each of the cube speakers.
Quality: I believe that the quality of these speakers is very good, if not excellent. I have read some other reviews about Bose speakers, and many of them are saying that the speakers aren?t good at all. I disagree. Someone said that there was not midrange. I found that interesting, because I listened to those same speakers, and realized that they were right. There were things that I usually heard with other speakers, that I didn?t even hear with the Bose. However, I found that the CD player?s mode needed to be changed. That made all the difference in the world. Also, Consumer reports rated the speakers, and it said that the midrange of the Bose speakers was very good.
Another thing that I read a lot of that these speakers don?t have much bass. I disagree. It placement of the Acoustimass Module is crucial to the sound quality. As Bose recommends, it is better to have the Module nearer a corner, and facing the corner. I guarantee that you will notice a difference.
Technology: (skip this paragraph if you are uninterested in what makes these speakers sound so good) In the Acoustimass Module, there are chambers. The woofer is placed towards the back of the module (farthest away from the hole). When the speaker cone moves, is moves the air that is in the module (if you put your hand over the hole, you can feel the air), so the low frequencies are let in the room through a column of air, rather than straight into the room, from a woofer. Because of this, there is no audible distortion. That is one thing that Bose is known for.
Accessories: With these speakers, there are the optional speaker stands, table stands, and wall brackets. I opted for the wall brackets. They aren?t the easiest to install, but they work.
Price: Well, while Bose speakers and systems sound excellent, you would expect them to for the price you pay. All of the Bose products are overpriced in my opinion. But they can do that, because they know that people will still buy them. For this system, I paid $300.00 dollars and for the brackets, I paid $25.00 dollars each. While they are overpriced, to me, it is worth it.
