The Bottom Line: 'Friends don't let friends buy Bose'
So the other day I am talking with my uncle, and he tells me he bought this new fantastic stereo. Naturally intrigued I asked what it was, and when he said Bose I was curious. So I went over his house to have a listen, from seeing so many commercials and knowing there popularity...I expected a lot out of the system.
First impression: Well it sort of has an odd styling. I guess this isn't a con, since I am not an interior designer, so maybe this is attractive to some. One thing I noted was its simplicity, very easy to use. I'll give Bose that. Then I was handed the remote. What a little piece of junk. I would lose the thing in the first 5 minutes, and if you step on it...I don't see it having much durability.
So i threw on a cd of mine, i wanted to hear music that i knew. Hit play. And let me ask this. What is so impressive about this??!?!?! Although the sound was very clear, it was lacking. The bass was from low to absent. Almost sounded hollow. Very disappointing. At this point I am torn between anger, because I now know what Bose is shoving down people's throats, and laughing so hard that it hurts. I can't believe people spent up to and over $1000 for this, I didn't dare ask how much my uncle paid. He was not amused at my laughing.
I will give this to Bose, they are absolute MASTERS of marketing hype. They have a good segment of the population CONVINCED that Bose products are good. Bravo Bose.
I have had 3 stereo's in my life. My first was a cheesy little Sony mini system, truly bottom of the line. Second was a $500 Aiwa mini system, compared to the Bose, it sounded much fuller, had much more bass, and oh my a TAPE PLAYER [Who the hell buys a stereo that can't even play a tape]. And my latest is a full system made by Sony, and although when i am finished it will cost more then $1000, it will sound 1000x better.
I hope people can see past Bose marketing, and convincing sales people, truly sad that this is what constitutes good sound. Hope this helps you choose a system that will truly satisfy you.
