Bose Acoustic Wave Music System - for Jazz and R&B fans only
Date of Review: Dec 11, 2003
The Bottom Line: Too little performance for too much money. For that price you can buy a REALLY GOOD surround sound system.
I bought the Bose Acoustic Wave Music System after watching the TV infomercial. I was a bit disappointed. The system performs really well. It is just like they say : no-nonsense system, without any hassle of wiring, connecting or some rocket-science programming.
You plug it in and it works.
However, it only works in small spaces. And performs only with certain kinds of music. And you have to seat directly in front of it to hear it. Here is the autopsy:
If you like jazz or R&B you'll love Bose Acoustic Wave Music System. It's performance is FANTASTIC with that type of music. And.. ONLY that type of music.
Rock, pop, classical, 80's, 70's - it all sounds flat and dull.
No wonder Herbie Hancock was a spokes-person for that infomercial. Don't even think about listening to your TV set thru Bose Acoustic Wave Music System. It sounds like cheap FM radio. The radio broadcast? Same as Tv.
The claims of "filling the room with the music" are WAY over exaggerated. You have to sit DIRECTLY in front of the system to hear stereo and all details.
Yes, the volume control goes Up Up and WAY UP and it sounds great even when you have it at 30 or 40%.
But when you turn it down to a whisper you can barely hear anything. Unless you're 2 feet away from the box. So, I guess this system ain't 'couch-potato friendly'. :))
A surround sound system for $300 performs much better than that.
