So Glad We Kept Looking
Date of Review: Oct 17, 2007
The Bottom Line: Love it! Love it! Simple, stylish, quiet and Energy Star.I hope to give it 5 stars in a follow-up review.
To replace an aging GE Patrician V, we started our search with CU ratings to eliminate "non-starters" and then began the footwork. After visiting several dealers (big box and local retailers) we decided the Bosch engineering was superior --- then we found E-pinions and were convinced by the members' fine reporting that we were right.
The SHE43 is just what we were looking for: stainless steel with simple lines (no protruding door to get in the way when using the counterspace above; simple cycles (only 4, and they all do a fine job) and controls on the front of the washer; extremely quiet operation; Energy Star ratings for water and power.
Thus far, our only "situation" has come in re-learning how to load for maximum utility. The top shelf doesn't seem to hold so many cups/glasses as the old GE. The silverware/utensil holder is terrific --- no more nesting.
And since we are old timers who "wash our dishes before we wash our dishes," I found that the Quick Wash cycle (28 minutes) works for us about half the time. The Auto Wash is the "usual" cycle, though, since it minimizes water and power by recognizing the light soil on the dishes. It takes about 118 minutes, including sanitzing rinse.
We purchased through EXPO and happily found our model on sale for $599 where other dealers' prices were over $748.
The installation contracted through EXPO @ $150 for delivery/install/haulaway and it went well although we'd caution that it is important that you either have the required flexible hoses and clamps on hand (available as a set @ Home Depot or Lowes for +/- $10) or expect to fork over nearly $50 for your installation folks to provide them.
Our installer, before removing the old unit, intimated to us that he expected to have to wire a plug outlet since our old machine was probably hardwired ... at a cost of $185! Hubby was on hand to make sure that such work was not needed when the requisite 110 plug was found in place.
Another reminder, although my embarassment was my own fault --- clear out the cupboard under your sink before the delivery/installation folks arrive. They have to get under there to disconnect and reconnect the garbage disposer. It's amazing how many half-used cleanser cans I had under there!
