Still Fascinated By Clive Barker's Weaveworld

Pros: Imagery, characters, fantasy
Cons: Graphic...very graphic...
The Bottom Line: Heard of Clive Barker? You know...the Hellraiser bloke...if so, you need to check out Weaveworld.
Review: If I were cornered and forced to choose my favorite horror-fantasy novel of all time, my choice would be simple. Weaveworld by admitted splatterpunk godfather Clive Barker is an exercise in weirdness and the extraordinary. Its not a novel for...

Pros: A world like you've never imagined.
Cons: Seemed like there were multiple endings.
The Bottom Line: Any reader of fantasy worth his salt must give Barker his due, especially this book.
Review: Have you ever read a typical fantasy novel and wondered how these characters would react to being in the 21st century? Have you ever dreamed of an updated fairy tale that would show how real people performed under threat of death from monsters so ...

Weaveworld, A Master's Worldbuilding

Pros: Surrealist Barker weaves a fantasy as enthralling as it is scary.
Cons: Fans looking for a jolt may find it slow in spots as it builds suspense.
The Bottom Line: Weaveworld is hypnotic, surreal and entrancing, suspension of disbelief sets up for great terrors.
Review: Weaveworld is a lyrical epic by shock writer Clive Barker. It has its nightmare elements and unlike many writers, Barker doesn't shy away from the surreal. His fantastic imagery light and dark is often far too original not to really startle with its...

Pros: Great Story, Characters You Really Care For
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: Compelling story, great characters, you just can't stop reading it!
Review: I read Clive Barkers "Weaveworld" for the first time when I was fifteen, and I kept coming back to it. It was my first Clive Barker book, and I fell in love with the guy. I had read most of his books and I loved them, but "Weaveworld" remained my...

This imaginative story works as either fantasy or horror. (Updated 7/1/01)

Pros: Totally absorbing fantasy/horror novel.
Cons: Sometimes feels like a movie edited too fast.
The Bottom Line: A must read for anyone who enjoys reading horror, fantasy, or just great books.
Review: "Weaveworld" is a tapestry woven of many characters and places. Its primary idea of a rug containing the entranceway to a magical land reminded me a little of "The Lion Witch and the Wardrobe", but it quickly transcends that children's fantasy tale into...

Pros: Great story, imaginative and creative.
Cons: it had to end
Review: This is my favourite Clive Barker book to date though I have not read all his works.
I loved the storyline and Barker is in a class of his own with his descriptive writing. Compared to Imajica it's a simpler tale in it's telling. Compared to... |

Pros: Vivid storytelling that captures the reader's full attention.
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: Wonderful storyline, strong character development, solid storytelling.
Review: This is probably one of the most imaginative and vividly written books I have read in my time. Clive Barker once again has done a beautiful job of creating a unique world that is a delight to travel through.
A world has been woven into a... |

Pros: Excellent Story, Good Characterizations, Compelling Tale
Cons: I didn't want the book to end and it did!
Review: Weaveworld held me in its grasp for a couple of weeks. On the Metro, before I went to bed, even when I could sneak out of work for a couple of minutes, this book came with me.
This is my first Clive Barker book, although I've seen a couple of... |
