Uncle Tom put me to sleep

Uncle Toms Cabin is one of the most boring books that I have ever had to read. The key word being had. In my American Literature class we had to read Uncle Toms Cabin and I hated every minute of it. The teacher was so bored that he admitted that he didn't finish the book and most of the class didn't either. I finished the book just because I hate to start something and not finish.

I realize how Uncle Toms Cabin changed the American cultural landscape by making people aware about the abuse and injustices suffered by slaves, but the book is a horrible bore. It is 400 pages of Ebonics from the South.
The main focus of the book is how Christianity was used to make the slaves believe that they wouldn't go to heaven if they didn't server their masters. The book also focuses on how badly some slaves were treated and how life was as a slave in the deep South.

Overall, I think the book sheds some light on the anti-slavery movement but the book is out of its element for today and really needs to be shortened for today's children.
