A Historical Story Never Out of Date

First Impressions
I absolutely loved this book! In fact, I started reading other Dumas book after it. I fell in love! :)
The style is light and vocabulary still understandable today.

Background Info
The story takes place in the 17th Century France, during the reign of Louis XIII. The cardinal in place is Richelieu, a very powerful minister. The captain of the Musketeers is Mr. Treville who comes from the same region of France than D'Artagnan.
The three musketeers will encounter D'Artagnan and then serve Mr. Treville and the queen in numerous ways, bringing them trough multiple adventures.

Characters

Richelieu - As I said, he was a powerful minister. He was once in love with the queen, Anne d'Autriche, be she turned him down for an English gentleman. He wants his vengeance on the queen, and on the Lord Buckingham. He is the enemy of the musketeers.

Mr. Treville - He is the beloved captain of the musketeers. His men would all give their lives for him, and he will risk everything to keep them out of jail and trouble. He is and influent counselor to the king and the opponent of Richelieu.

D'Artagnan - A young lad who only asks to make his mark in history and make a fortune at the same time. He is simply full of youth and ambition. His has a lot to learn and has a lot of potential.

Aramis - Musketeer. A very careful gentleman whose real vocation is God. He is very well liked by women.

Porthos - Musketeer. The strongest, physically, of the four friends. He can kill someone by hitting them with his fist on the head. Not very bright though. His ambitions are money and social status.

Athos - Musketeer. The most distinguished of all four. There are some secrets he will not reveal and it is very apparent that is a noble being from birth.

Milady - A horrible being. Very pretty creature that has only hate in her heart (if she has one). She is an agent of Richelieu and a personal enemy of the four friends.

Plot
There is not really a single plot since there are several adventures throughout the story. The basic goal is to save the queen from the attacks of the cardinal Richelieu. At the same time, D'Artagnan will search to save his love, who happens to be why he is in all of these adventures.
There are trips to England, fights between gentleman, war, and love stories. It is a very complete novel in which you can find all of these. I cannot really describe the story line or this review will be really too long to read! :)

Recommendation
This book is really for everyone. I strongly suggest parents who want to interest their teenagers in reading to buy one of Dumas' books. They do seem a little long (they are no short to read in fact), but they are very well written. The style is not too harsh and the vocabulary is not too out of date.

If you read this one and like it, I would recommend you read the others from Dumas, especially the sequel to this book, Twenty Years After.
