Alexandre Dumas' The Three Musketeers

Date of Review:  Jul 16, 2001
The Bottom Line: A great swashbuckling adventures with heroes, villains, love, death, intrigue and betrayal.
Review: After having watched the movie by the same name, I was prompted to pick up this classic and actually read it. I also hunted around a bit for the background on the novel.

Dumas was known more during his time for writing plays than novels...

The Three Musketeers: Template for a Genre

Date of Review:  Nov 24, 2005
The Bottom Line: The starting point for a host of movies and novels, worth reading for itself.
Review: I was a little hesitant to post this review of The Three Musketeers on Epinions, simply because there are 10 other reviews, several of which are excellent. However, I do have what I think is a unique approach, so I decided to go ahead.

Time-tested Fun

Date of Review:  Mar 1, 2000
Review: Who hasn't heard about the Three Musketeers (even if there is really four) and their famous motto, "All for one, and one for all"? It's as much a part of our culture as apple pie and "Mikey likes it." However, until this past Christmas, when my...

Review: First Impressions
I absolutely loved this book! In fact, I started reading other Dumas book after it. I fell in love! :)
The style is light and vocabulary still understandable today.

Death, Love, Swords, and Lust!

Date of Review:  Dec 15, 1999
Review: This classic tale of Athos, Porthos, Aramis, and, of course, d'Artagnan, has been the best "cloak and dagger" novel since 1844. With sword fights, long chases, beautiful women, lust, love and a few deaths this novel packs more fight and pizzazz than...

En garde!

Date of Review:  Sep 13, 2001
The Bottom Line: All for one and one for all! And I'm for recommending this classic adventure saga.
Review: I read the Dumas novel concurrently in French and in English, in a desperate attempt to polish my education in the language and make it fun at the same time. The tale takes place in France during the reign of King Louis XIII, and centers of course...

Better than any movie

Date of Review:  Jan 18, 2000
Review: This is an altogether excting and attention keeping book. No movie could ever capture what Dumas wrote down. From page one to page last the story just keeps on coming. There are no slow parts.

Unlike some books where you don't know where...
