It’s FATE to read Victor Hugo’s best Novel

by   quipowerty ,  Dec 26, 2004
Pros: One of Victor Hugo’s best works of literature.
Cons: There was a cartoon movie made from it.
The Bottom Line: With this Romantic novel, Hugo breaks many illusions about the Middle Ages in his work about a hunchback and his cathedral. Screw the animated movie.
Review: The Workings of Fate are at hand here. The word FATE made an impact on Victor Hugo when he visited Notre Dame Cathedral and found an imprint of the word on the wall. He wrote the novel as an attempt to save the cathedral from being demolished. There was ...

*NOT* a children's book!!

by   lyndaloo ,  Dec 22, 1999
Pros: A gripping, captivating, well-written and emotional book
Cons: NOT a children's book, very violent, sexually explicit and graphic at times.
Review: Assuredly the person who categorized this book in the Children's section has never read it. I wouldn't let anyone under 14 touch this with a 10 foot pole. While Hunchback is one of my favored books, it is not for the innocent or faint hearted.

WOW, what a book.

by   Tweety23456 ,  Jan 13, 2000
Pros: A lot of exciting plot twists. The book is different than I had expected it to be.
Cons: Has a lot of vulgarity and a sad ending.
Review: As a youth many of my friends were required to read this book in English classes. For some reason I always got around it. After recently reading this book I am sorry it took me so long to pick it up. I chose to read the unabridged version.

Hannibal Lecther was not this evil...

by   Russhoolio ,  Jan 18, 2000
Pros: very realistic portrayal of humanity
Cons: A few long slow spots
Review: This is perhaps the darkest tale I have ever read. It begins in mirth and ends in death. It explores the depths of the human conscious and reveals that perhaps you are not the good person that you believe yourself to be. One who believes himself to be...

A wonderful piece of genius!

by   moistmusic ,  Oct 3, 2006
Pros: A lot of caracters and a lot of actions
Cons: To perfect!
Review: Wow, I just read this book 1 month ago and I have to say it's an amazing book. It may be 700 pages long but when you are near the end, you try not to read to much because you don't want to finish it. You get attached to the caracters and you feel the way ...

A Charming Little Note to Victor Hugo

by   Jennophile ,  Mar 2, 2003
Pros: memorable characters and ending
Cons: verbose in places
The Bottom Line: A moving novel with the breadth and scope of life itself and the individuality of high romance.
Review: Dear Mr. Hugo,

I wish to thank you for your wonderful novel, The Hunchback of Notre-Dame.

Long was it on my list of books to read. Only when a friend commented that he was going to reread it, in honor of the 170th anniversary of...

Amazing Grace

by   bjimenez ,  Jul 19, 2000
Pros: Emotional and Sympathetic
Cons: For some style is hard to read.
Review: The Hunchback of Notre Dame remains a classic tale of betrayal, lost love, and eternal longings. This story is haunting and beautiful, in a simple, yet powerful manner, that speaks to the very soul.

The story is told by the author, Victor...

Review: The Book The Hunchback of Notre Dame written by Victor Hugo is a good book. I read this book, because Victor Hugo is my favorite author. I really enjoyed Les Miserables which was also written by him. He wrote The Hunchback of Notre Dame very...
