The Grapes of Wrath: This book is one long vine!

Date of Review: Aug 8, 2000

The Grapes of Wrath is one of those books that you'll probably be forced into reading sooner or later in your lifetime. When I first picked up this book, I must have read the first paragraph ten times before I could actually understand it. Despite that delay, the rest of the book can go by fairly quickly if you are in to reading. The Grapes of Wrath teaches the reader about the Dust Bowl time period, and the struggles that each family had to put up with at that time. When you start to understand the characters and the role each plays in the Joad family, this book can be very fun to read. The Oklahoma accents are easy to visualize with the help of Steinbeck's excellent dialog. If you enjoy very fast-paced, action-filled books, this might not be the one for you. However, if you are up to a good classic and enjoy good old-fashioned entertainment, then I highly recommend that you read this novel.

Pros
Good story, you learn to love the Joads!
Cons
Every other chapter is a political and economically reference of the time period
