Wow! Architects, philosophy, and GOOD TOO!
Date of Review: Jun 6, 2001
The Bottom Line: Might not appeal to everyone, but everyone ought to read it, just for the thought provoking aspects, if nothing else.
I never would have thought that I would read a rather long book about the lives of a couple of architects and enjoy it. Guess I should have thought harder. I went into this book having read one of Ayn Rand's shorter pieces, which I had enjoyed, and decided to give a more substantial volume a try. I was absolutely blown away by how quickly I found myself caring about the characters and the events in my life. I chose sides without realizing it, I rooted for the underdog, I pitied the unsuccessful. Most importantly, I began to question my belief system. I don't really know much about "Objectivism," but I do know that it contains some very valid tenets and ideas. I came away from this book saying to myself, "If I ever decide to have a house built, The Fountainhead will be required reading for the architect."
