Reading The Art Of War May Help Your Lovelife/Anti-War W/O

by   jankp ,  Mar 30, 2003
Pros: offers ancient Chinese wisdom on how to prevent unnecessary war
Cons: some leaders don't apply this wisdom
The Bottom Line: Technically I'm crashing this write-off since I told the host I had nothing to post now. I come in peace, though!
Review: I believe we can fly back through time 2500 years for wisdom in The Art of War that many of our leaders are sadly, horribly lacking today. This review was first written a few years ago, but not exactly placed in the right place (the translator...

Lessons from a Philosopher/ General

by   strategery ,  Apr 18, 2001
Pros: Valuable lessons from an ancient master.
Cons: Requires study to glean the book's secrets.
The Bottom Line: If you desire excellence, study The Art of War .
Review: The Art of War was written five hundred years before the time of Christ. In this work, Chinese philosopher turned general Sun Tzu , lays out his grand strategy of waging war. Warfare truly is a form of art if practiced according to the...

the art of war is not the art of the deal

by   HRogue ,  Aug 27, 2000
Pros: fantastic fusion of military genius and Eastern philosophies
Cons: eagerly misappropriated by dunderheaded powertrippers who mistake business for warfare
Review: It seems especially appropriate that I should have discovered this listing through the "Products in Search of Opinions" feature. I write for the sake of the expression rather than the trickle of pennies or any sort of recognition, but if...

Ruthlessness 101

by   Ynmaeven ,  Apr 3, 2000
Pros: A Useful Tool for Strategy Even Today
Cons: none
Review: The "The Art of War" was compiled over 2,000 years
ago by a mysterious Chinese philosopher/warrior Sun
Tzu. It is still perhaps the most influential book
of strategy in the world today. "The Art of War" is
as...

The Art of War. The Art of Life.

by   stormwolf17 ,  Mar 2, 2001
Pros: Good read, relevant information.
Cons: none.
The Bottom Line: Read the art of war, it has advice that you could probably use if you know how to apply it to today's life.
Review: The Art of War, probably one of the most recognized books in today's society. A book that has inspired everyone from emperors of the authors time, to the most popular rap groups of our time. Sun Tzu, the original author, and a contemporary of...

The Art of TZU

by   the_thunder ,  Apr 4, 2000
Pros: Eastern thinking, classic
Cons: some part can become boring to read
Review: The Art of War, Sun Tzu's Masterpiece (only piece as far as I know) should be required reading for everyone. I am no military expert, nor do I plan to pursue the military field at all, but I read this book for the hell of it, and I as amazed....

Ancient Book Applies To Corporate Battlefield

by   icom158 ,  Apr 17, 2000
Pros: One of the best eastern philosophy books. Perfect Addition to any library.
Cons: Not everyone has read it. :-(
Review: The Art of War was written by a Chinese Taoist military strategist, Sun Tzu, thousands of years ago in China in a time of warring states. This book is a strategy guide of budding generals with all of Sun Tzu's incites.

Taoism:
Ancient...

Sun Tzu: The best book for war ever.

by   angelic_tears ,  Feb 17, 2000
Pros: Best book on military strategy. Ever.
Cons: None that I can think of.
Review: Remarkably, this book, the very one which graced the shelves of ancient japan and china, is on epinions.com. This book, more than any other, has contributed to the rise of generals. It's simple, poetic prose is excelently suited for any tactician, or...

~The Art of War or 13 Steps to Victory ~

by   telithri ,  Nov 20, 2001
Pros: This text helped form the foundation for many modern, sophisticated military practices.
Cons: When any text enjoys the status that this book possesses, objectivity may become lost.
The Bottom Line: My rating is aimed at the publisher, not Sun Tzu. I highly recommend reading his writings but I'm not so sure about this edition.
Review: Overview:
Over 2500 years old, the heart of this book has been a source of inspiration and guidance for military leaders, warriors, businessmen and politicians from both Eastern and Western schools of thought. In it, the author lays a...

Don't Flatter Yourself

by   orkboi ,  Apr 16, 2001
Pros: You can read it really quick 'cause it's short.
Cons: Your talents will fail to impress anyone who's literate.
The Bottom Line: You want to know how to succeed in business? Take a night class.
Review: I can't believe some of the stuff I read about the "Art of War". One reviewer had the gall to suggest that the Art of War was the secret to the Japanese leap from feudal society to world economic power. I guess he skipped the class on World War II.
