The First Fudge Book

The first book made that features the Hatcher family is called "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing" by Judy Blume. I read this book the day after Thanksgiving and I
absolutely loved it. The characters are: Peter Hatcher, Farley Drexel (Fudge) Hatcher, Mr. Hatcher, Mrs. Hatcher, Sheila Tubman, Jimmy Fargo, and a few minor characters. (Henry is kind of a minor character.)

Those characters together form what I think is a magnificent book for grades 3-5 (ages 7-10.) I like this book for everything about it. This short summary should help you understand why.

The book starts at a birthday party that is being thrown for Peter Hatcher's best friend, Jimmy Fargo. At the party there are all kinds of things to do but Peter liked one certain event most. Everyone had to guess how many jellybeans were in a jar. Peter guessed the highest so he won a turtle that he decided to name Dribble. Everyone else that guessed something got to take home a goldfish.

Later, two people from a Juci-O Company come and Fudge brings Dribble out. Mr. Hatcher is an advertiser and that is what the people were there for, to get him to advertise their product. He loses the job when Fudge brings Dribble out and when Fudge sticks trading stamps all over their suit case. That is not even the end of it. Fudge causes a lot of trouble. Finally, he causes so much trouble that Dribble dies. Find out how in the book.

My favorite part is when the Hatchers go to town and Fudge causes total havoc.
