Peek-a-boo, I see you!
Dont turn on the light. Dont make a sound. Try not to breath or youll be caught.
Isnt that the way a hide and seek came is played? Isnt it always fun to make it back to your home base before youre caught?
Only sometimes, its not a game and the stakes are very, very high.

A very small bit of the plot in
Survivor in Death:
Someone sneaks in the house and murders the housekeeper and the entire family or so he thinks. What he doesnt realize, yet, is that he left behind a survivor. A little girl who, in the middle of the night, sneaked downstairs to the kitchen to get something to drink. But, how was she missed? If shes alive, who was in her bed when the murders took place?
Dallas investigates and realizes this murder wasnt random. It was a deliberate assassination but which of the victims was the intended and which ones were wiped out in order to leave no witnesses?
Each family member, including the maid, had a background that might cause someone to consider murder.
Now its up to Eve to find out who and why. While shes up to her elbows in the investigation, shes taken on the responsibility of keeping the sole survivor, little nine-year old Nixie safe until those responsible for the murder can be caught and punished.

A tidbit from the subplot:
Dallas took on more than she was prepared for when he opened her door and her heart to a nine-year old girl.

My conclusion:
Ive noticed that Peabody is becoming a stronger character. Not so much by being equal as far as the exposure Dallas gets in the book but merely because she, as a person, is becoming more confident. In Survivor in Death, she doesnt just speak with Dallas on cases and her own love life, but she voices her opinion on things Eve wishes she hadnt. Something, that until this book, Peabody hadnt done.
We all know Dallas to be a hard cop and a soft, loving wife. Survivor in Death brings out a new dimension of Dallas personality. Along with total confusion with being in the company of a young girl, shes also being to enjoy it just a little.

My opinion:
As always, Ive notice growth with some recurring characters. Truehart is one. Hes been in a few in Death books so far and in this one, his character is still becoming more important to the cases Dallas works on. Not only is he growing out of his rookie cop persona, but hes becoming a personal friend of Dallas and Roarke, as well.
Survivor in Death gives you the chance to climb, once again, into the head of our heroine and see the strengths and fears we all face every day. Witnessing her growing friendship with Peabody and her everlasting friendship with Mavis, make you realize that no matter who we meet, the possibility of a true friend is always present.
Survivor in Death, in my opinion, opens up a whole new world of possibilities for us to imagine Dallas getting herself into next.
Im sure youll enjoy it as much as I did.
Thank you for reading.
