Author's Review
Is it ever possible to forgive and forget? Scribbler of Dreams, a story of two star-crossed lovers, is brilliantly written by Mary E. Pearson. Told through the eyes of seventeen year old, Kaitlin Malone, this book depicts struggles that the past can cause and the hatred people possess. Using realistic aspects of a teens life, Scribbler of Dreams blends fantasy and reality to create the compelling story that steals your heart.
The Crutchfields and the Malones were born to hate each other. Similar to the rest of her family, Kait Malone blames the Crutchfields for everything that is going wrong in her life, especially now that her father is imprisoned for killing Robert Crutchfield. With the Crutchfields declaring it was murder and the Malones claiming it was an accident, Kait and her sister, Abby, are forced to attend the public high school under the name Hampton. Hate overcomes Kaitlin, but the unthinkable soon happens. She becomes head over heels in love with a boy, who turns out to be Bram Crutchfield. As the story progresses, Kaits love for Bram deepens, but along with this deepening love comes a deepening lie. Kait soon learns that the Crutchfields arent the monsters that she had grown up thinking they were, and after reading the journals of Maggie Crutchfield, Kaitlin learns the truth about the passionate hatred that the two families hold.
This creative teenage love story is heartbreaking and hopeful at the same time. Scribbler of Dreams displays tangling lies, misunderstanding, and betrayal. With a happily-ever-after ending, it will leave teenage romantics fulfilled.
