George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion: Eliza Doolittle transformed from guttersnipe to a lady

by  dramastef ,  Feb 21, 2003
107 out of 107 people found this review helpful.
Pros: Wonderful story and characters
Cons: Hard to separate from movie.
The Bottom Line: If you once read it for an assignment, read it again! If you have never read it, pick it up now!

Review: The story of Pygmalion is the first in my memory that captured me in all its forms: the classic myth, this play (in which I played a bit part once upon a time), the Broadway production, and the theatrical version, My Fair Lady...

Victims of Middle Class Morality

by  Guildencrantz ,  May 5, 2005
29 out of 29 people found this review helpful.
Pros: While the movie and My Fair Lady are great, the pure story is best.
Cons: This play is masterfully crafted and perfect, it didn't need to be altered.
The Bottom Line: Shaw knew what he was doing when he wrote this. It's the pure, and best, version of the story. My Fair Lady's great, but make sure you read this too.

Alternative To A Monologue

by  everlong ,  Feb 15, 2002
10 out of 10 people found this review helpful.
Pros: No monologues at all.
Cons: Nothing much other than that.
The Bottom Line: Buy it used. It's not worth the new price
This reviewer does not recommend this product.
Review: What is the least interesting part of a play? My honest answer: the monologue. Why the monologue? A monologue, stripped down to its core, is an actor or actress standing onstage talking to him or herself. That is as exciting as watching paint dry...
