Author's Review
Like many other Dean Koontz greats, One Door Away From Heaven was a journey into a dimension that is different from ours, but seems so close you can touch it-and with just the slightest stretch of the imagination, it IS ours. It had the same rich characters that seem so real you can hear their blood pounding in the pages, and feel their tears dripping on your floor. I was caught up in his characters as usual, but frankly, I rushed through the book. Why? I HAD to find out the answer to the riddle "What lies behind the door that is one door away from heaven?" I wouldn't have cared if he gave a trite answer, but he NEVER completely answered it, and that drove me nuts and made me rush the book. When he didn't even answer it in an epilogue, I really felt cheated.
The second time I read the book, I was completely captivated. Leilani and Curtis are just children, but by simply living they change everyone who comes in contact with them. They are opposites. Leilani is very much of this world, while Curtis is, well, NOT. The kind (but flawed) people who meet them are drawn into a journey that will change their own hearts forever.
Filled with shape-shifters, chases, shootouts, evil beings, and good cookies, this book takes the reader on a journey into possibilities.
