Brings your imagination alive
Date of Review: Jan 26, 2000
When I first read this book, I couldn't put it down. I know that sounds corny, but this book set off a part of me that would love to go live a peaceful, independent life by myself. This is exactly what Sam does in My Side of the Mountain. He is forced to fend for himself in an unfamiliar forest. He must find his own food, build his own shelter, and protect himself the whole time. Sam is a resourceful boy and makes his solitary existence as comfortable as possible. Like a modern-day pioneer, he uses his wits and determination to not only survive, but to thrive. The wonderful plot and imaginative writing make this book a joy to read. It fascinated me. So much so that my brothers and I hollowed out a tree to make a shelter, trying to be like Sam in this book. I recommend this book for everyone, even if they don't usually like reading, to enjoy.
