A Girl's Story of Survival

Pros:  Great action book that educates and inspires.

Cons:  Some use of flashbacks that may confuse young readers.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

This is a fabulous book for pre-teens and up, especially girls. This book has adventure, nature, suspense and everything kids enjoy in an action movie or video game. This book is well written and teaches children about the Alaskan wilderness and the inuit people. How Julie survives the barren tundra shows children how perseverance, creativity and hard work can accomplish what seems impossible. Julie inspires young girls to try new things and take chances. Boys enjoy the book because of the wolves, danger, and exciting imagery.

I would highly recommend this book as holiday reading or summer reading. It is also a book that can be shared with younger children as a "read aloud".

We don't seem to have enough books for children that educate, entertain and inspire them and this one is a real treasure.
