Harry Potter: such a controversial little boy

by   jurgrace ,  Oct 3, 2008
Pros: Introduction to a truly magical world
Cons: Gives the impression that the whole series will be suitable for young children
The Bottom Line: This is a wonderful fantasy, but I wouldn't recommend getting really young kids hooked, because the series gradually gets darker
Review: Okay, so I know there are over 600 reviews of Harry Potter on this site, and my thoughts might be repeated in some of those reviews, but I am not about to wade through them to find out. In looking for a banned book to write about in pestyside's Banned ...

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone - The Book That Started It All

by   dragonfire88 , top reviewer in Books at Epinions.com ,  May 27, 2003
Pros: Delightfully engrossing story that came to life. The book got children reading.
Cons: None for me
The Bottom Line: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone was a wonderful first book in a series by J.K. Rowling. It is considered a children's book, but adults can enjoy it too.
Review: I’m an adult and I love Harry Potter. I have seen the two movies and I have all four of the books. I reserved a copy of the fifth book months ago. I had been hearing about the Harry Potter books for a while before I read any of them. My best ...

Everything I have Heard... and SO Much More!

by   laurashrti ,  Feb 12, 2004
Pros: Wizards, witches, flying broomsticks, goblins, dragons, humor... fantasy for everyone!
Cons: Some parents may be wary of the whole magic scene, but no worries, I promise!
The Bottom Line: This is a fantastic book for children and adults alike! Enjoy this book with your child or parent!
Review: Okay, so I've finally began the Harry Potter series. I saw the movie and decided it was time. For those of you who have been living under a rock (I am the cliche goddess), J. K. Rowling has created a well-known and loved series of books about a young ...

The Magic Starts Here: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

by   befus ,  Oct 3, 2008
Pros: Characters; setting; humor; themes. A wonderful read-aloud!
Cons: Their huge popularity sometimes turns potential readers (who might really enjoy them) off.
The Bottom Line: "He'll be famous--a legend--I wouldn't be surprised if today was known as Harry Potter day in the future--there will be books written about Harry --"      "Exactly," said Dumbledore...
Review: This past week I've been remembering an old friend. His name is Harry Potter, and you've might have met him too. The first time I saw Harry, he was just a skinny eleven year old kid with touseled black hair, taped up glasses, and a funny ...

Despite That "Hogwart's" Sounds Like a Venereal Disease, This is Still a Must-Read

by   JediKermit , top reviewer in Books at Epinions.com ,  Sep 17, 2001
Pros: Rowlings use of names, imagination, fun, and well-established themes of friendship
Cons: I tried to jump off my roof riding a broom. THAT stings.
The Bottom Line: Sets the storyline for the Harry Potter series of novels...a slower start than the other books, but still a well-written, enjoyable read.
Review: After all that's been said about Harry Potter, what's left to say? I rarely write the 470th review for an item, because I'd rather expose more people to the rarer things I enjoy, instead of the things everyone already knows about. In my conceited...

Cons: A little scary at times.
The Bottom Line: Great for Kids! Great for Adults! Adventure, Fantasy, Magic! Let Your Imagination Run Wild!!

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. A book that transforms kids into readers.

by   talyseon ,  May 11, 2008
Pros: A true Masterpiece.
Cons: Attracts nutters from their hiding places.
The Bottom Line: First of the brilliant Septology that changed a nation of couch potatos into readers.
Review: Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone By J. K. Rowling. So much has been written about Harry Potter…I figure it’s my turn. (Note: The title was changed to Sorcerer’s Stone for American consumption, it being figured we ...

Why did I Wait so Long?

by   jsmorris ,  Mar 24, 2008
Pros: Strong characters, fun, action packed, never boring
Cons: Nothing
The Bottom Line: If you haven't read this book, you definitely need to find a copy. It's incredible!
Review: I just finished listening to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and liked it so well that I can’t wait to read the rest of the series. I can now understand what all of the buzz was about when these books were first published. Harry Potter ...

Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling Waves her Magic Pen

by   CyndiA , top reviewer in Books at Epinions.com ,  Aug 24, 2003
Pros: One of the best books for kids ever written.
Cons: Keeps you up late at night hanging on every word.
The Bottom Line: I can see why the kids went wild for Harry Potter. It's a great book for all ages.
Review: My son insisted that I read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. He mentioned it some ti ...

Great Book For All Ages

by   GravityGirl ,  Jun 12, 2000
Pros: Full of adventure, mystery, and friendship
Cons: A controversial book that has been banned in some places. Also, new books in the series only come out once a year.
Review: Last year, I picked up the paperback edition of the Sorcerer's Stone because I had heard so much about Harry Potter and I wanted to find out for myself whether the series was worth all the attention it was getting.

Well, I stayed up to read...
