Pros: Entertaining, insightful novel
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: A wonderful work by a literary master.
Review: What is it that sets the great authors apart from the rest of the pack? Is it that they are great storytellers? They must be, to be sure, but more is required than the simple ability to regale an enthralling tale to elevate an author to revered status in...

Pros: Wonderful Dickens wit and prose with a powerful finish
Cons: starts off a little slow
The Bottom Line: This book is excellent. It starts off a little slow but it is just Dickens building a plot and story that will make you a better person for reading it.
Review: I once attempted to read this book several years ago in middle school. It lacked the stimulus that my young mind needed to maintain focus long enough to get in to it, hence, it was shelved and other books such as "The Hardy Boys" and "Storm Testament"...

Pros: The themes, and true meanings will not affect you until your late 20's
Cons: You will probably have to read it in HS and will hate it.
The Bottom Line: If you read it too young, you wont get it... if you are out on your own, you will see why people love it.
Review: <a>Yes, Dickens was paid by the word when writing this. Yes, this is a big book Yes, if you were forced to read it in school, you probably hated Yes, if you read it on your own at or after age 25… you probably loved it. I for one, ...

Pros: Very inspirational and motivating

Pros: Fast pace, twisty plot. Superb characterization.
Cons: A lot of climaxes and cliffhangers. Typically long descriptive passages.
The Bottom Line: Recommend this to anyone who wants a classic read. As one of Dickens shorter works it is a fine place to start. Buy the Penguin edition for the introduction.
Review: I love the cover of the Penguin edition. The painting seems almost perfect for Dickens novel. The in ...

Pros: Incredible development of the characters of Estella and Pip
Cons: None
Review: Great Expectations is essentially about Pips ascension through society, the development of his selfhood, and his realization of which people actually care about him. Pip would not have to worry about any of these issues if it were not for Estellas...

Pros: Dickens' colorful characters and marvelous plot twists
Cons: none
The Bottom Line: The first classic you should read- and, if you've read others, a competitor for the best classic you will read.
Review: Charles Dickens' classic novel is the best book he wrote. The main character Pip is the son of a working-class family who forgets his roots in his attempt to become successful - and when he falls in love with Estella - the "rich" girl the jilted Miss...

Pros: characterizations, humor, insight
Cons: sentimentality, tragic/comic mix
Review: It's so amazing how Dickens is able to establish his atmosphere and fill his world with characters just crazy enough to be credible. So much of fiction is filled with cardboard, indistinguishable characterizations, figures whose dialogue cannot be...
