A small package that delivers a powerful punch

Mitch Albom has again written a short but exceptional book. The number of pages may be few but it is a total package. His story of family, and all the emotions that come with them, will stay with you long after the last page is finished.
This is a story of a man that has had so much turmoil and disappointment in his life that he feels he cannot go on. The one thing that has stayed true and steadfast is his mother's love. This story shows the unconditional love that a mother has for her children and how selfless she will be to make their lives better.
Another aspect of the book was a son striving for his father's love and approval. Many father's try to live their dreams through their sons and perhaps after reading this book some will stop and take a long, hard look at what they are doing to their children.
Another turn this book takes is the realm of the living seeing the dead when they are near death themselves. I have worked in the health care field for almost 30 years and have seen first hand the dying seeing angels or relatives that have died years ago. Whenever Mrs. Whoever started seeing and audibly speaking to her dead mother, or husband or an angel, you know the end is near. Also, the brain is a mysterious thing, most trauma patients never remember the moments before and many many more moments after their accident so who is say what they see or hear while unconscious?
I could go on and on discussing the layers of this book, growing up in a divorced home in the 60's, the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat in sports, relationships of families--husband/wife, mother/son, father/daughter, sister/brother--this book has it all.
I loved this book from start to finish(which was in one sitting) and am still thinking about it days later.
