Farenheit 451: A Must Read (Edited 7/10/01)

by   OpalMan ,  Dec 12, 1999
Pros: Excellent Story - with a moral
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: One of Bradbury's best. A must read for every book lover.
Review: *****Edited July 10, 2001*****

I have read and re-read this book numerous times. It is one of Mr. Bradbury's best novels ever. You can sympathize with the main character throughout. It tells a fantastic story about what can happen with...

Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 ignites my Fuhrer, er, furor

by   updateghost ,  Feb 14, 2006
Pros: Relevance. Prose.
Cons: None.
The Bottom Line: is on fiyah! HE'S ON FIYAH!
Review: Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 is a cerebral novella that terrifies with its recollection of history and clairvoyance. The events depicted aren't farfetched in any way; reading Nien Cheng's Life and Death in Shanghai can prove their ...

Brings fire into my life!

by   iceecoldcherry ,  Aug 23, 2004
Pros: very fast reading, easy to understand if you're into it, excellent story, very twisted
Cons: page amount may be intimidating to those who don't like to read voluntarily
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend reading this book, whether you're bored or it's on a list of summer readings you must do, or just for fun. Great book!
Review: I normally don't read books unless I'm required to for school. This book I randomly chose for a summer reading about 5 years ago, and till this day, my eyes light up when I think of this Fahrenheit 451! type: Science Fiction Short SHORT ...

Fahrenheit 451- A Glimpse into the Structure of a Society

by   gmontag ,  May 2, 2001
Pros: Goes deep into the depths of the philosophical realm of society.
Cons: Chapters are stretched out, making each one extremely long.
The Bottom Line: Fahrenheit 451 offers a lesson that no one should ever forget about the role of government, the role of knowledge, and essentially, the role of individualism.
Review: Rarely in the world of fiction does an author attempt, much less be successful, at delving into the world of philosophy and the internal workings of society. However, Ray Bradbury, author of the great novel "Fahrenheit 451", has managed to do all of...

In Honor Of All Banned Books...

by   QuinnElaine ,  Oct 1, 2000
Pros: Everything
Cons: Such things are actually going on as you read this!
Review: Instead of choosing one from the frighteningly long list of books frequently banned in America, I have chosen a novel which surprisingly does not appear on the list. Fahrenheit 451 is perhaps the definitive word on censorship, as well as the most...

The unexamined life

by   kurt_h , top reviewer in Books at Epinions.com ,  Jul 3, 2001
Pros: Prescient SF from 1953
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: Horrifyingly prescient and still striking out against those that would deny us the right to be different.
Review: "Fahrenheit 451" is a science fiction novel by Ray Bradbury.

Guy Montag is 30 and is having a mid-life crisis. Like all modern men having a mid-life crisis he gets involved with a younger woman. In a normal novel this would normally lead to...

Another Great Bradbury Story

by   tater929 ,  Oct 20, 2002
Pros: Great theme, great story,
Cons: none
The Bottom Line: This is a great book by Bradbury, he gives his opinion on censorship. This book is good for anyone of any age.
Review: I am personally a big fan of all of Ray Bradbury's stories. All of his stories find some ways to ridicule our society or to show his opinion on how technology has or will ruin us. This book in certain ridicules how bad censorship will be in the future....

Free Speech 101

by   Kessec ,  Apr 16, 2000
Pros: Insightful warnings about restricting others' free speech
Cons: None at all
Review: As a semi-professional skeptic (which is a nice way of saying that I can't seem to find anyone who wants to pay me lavishly for writing about skepticism), I often get frustrated in dealing with others who disagree with my views. There are many reasons...

The burning question...

by   marilynn.. ,  Feb 5, 2001
Pros: It challenges the reader to think about society and censorship laws
Cons: none that I can think of
The Bottom Line: This is a classic science fiction novel about censorship in the future. The Firemen burn the books. Go figure...must read.
Review: Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury was first printed in 1953. Bradbury wrote this sci-fi book about censorship in 1941. My new classic paperback edition cost $6.99 U.S. at the local big-box store chain.

Plot: I don't like to give away details...

Firemen Who Actually Start Fires!

by   VeeZee ,  Nov 22, 1999
Pros: A profound look at a world without books, Intense and powerful, Almost poetic writing style, Will make you think
Cons: Somewhat difficult to read, but the novel is a fairly brief one
Review: Fahrenheit 451 is one of the most amazing books I have ever read. It is very deep and will make you think long after you have finished it. A mix between sci fi and fantasy, Bradbury takes you into the next millenium, where books are no longer treasured...
