How Pern became the Pern we know today

Pros: a definitive piece on life right before a Pass with something for everyone
Cons: the College plotline was a little dry in places, slowing the flow
The Bottom Line: I don't see how anyone can skip this installment, which is is one of (if not) the best Pern books yet, hands down.

McCaffery's Dragonseye, returning to the early days of Pern

Pros: It's interesting to see the transition taking place.
Cons: The several anachronisms really are jarring, and break the storytelling thread.
The Bottom Line: It's good, but not great. Fills in some of the details of how the colony made the shift from technology to a primitive lifestyle, but it's too clumsy.
