Author's Review
Moser has done it again... a fun, witty, understandable book for kids that gets to the heart of the problem! This 40 page book will have your kids saying, "Don't pop your cork on Mondays!" Additionally, Pilkey mesmerizes my kids with his vivid and adorable illustrations.
Moser likens "popping your cork" to behaving like animals. Analogies between stress and behaviors of lions, monkeys, bulls, ostriches, and turtles are used. He explains that stress affects everyone, some of the causes of stress, the displacement of stress onto other people, how it affects behavior, and physical body reactions to stress. Moser then goes on to explain ways stress can affect us positively and negatively.
Finally, the book gives the child ideas on how to reduce stress by exercising, deep breathing with counting, tensing and relaxing your body, and imagining your quiet relaxed place.
I love this book! My 5 year old will tell me she needs to dance so that her cork won't pop. Sometimes she gets down on the floor like she's going to hop like a bunny. Instead of hopping, she tells me her cork is going to pop. She'll pop herself into a standing position and make a popping noise. She'll keep doing that until she feels better. It's fun to watch and even if she does get a little loud at times, it's better than if she were to really lose it.
