You Mean Death Doesn't Look Like Brad Pitt?

by   meeshling ,  Aug 7, 2001
Pros: Gaiman's writing! Death, a great story, beautiful art.
Cons: None that I can see.
The Bottom Line: Gaiman's writing is always a pleasure, especially for such a great character.
Review: 'One day in every century Death takes on mortal flesh, better to comprehend what the lives she takes must feel like, to taste the bitter tang of mortality: and this is the price she must pay for being the divider of the living from all that has...

My first foray into Sandman... & it won't be my last!

by   amyguthrie ,  Feb 10, 2000
Pros: Entertaining! Insightful! Great introduction, too!
Cons: I have NO complaints.
Review: I started reading Neil Gaiman novels because I fell in with Tori Amos-loving crowd, and the two are friends. After tackling novels and short stories, I decided to purchase _Death : The High Cost of Living_ from the Science Fiction Book Club. I devoured...

Read Death

by   dantehikks ,  Jan 26, 2001
Pros: so many
Cons: nothing really
The Bottom Line: Incredible comic that brings a whole new spin on Death
Review: Death is the story of...death.
A boy wants to kill himself. He finds no reason to live (and for good reason. You'll see as you read his suicide note) He meets up with the personification of death who turns out to be a high-spirited teenage girl....

Short yet terrific

by   Daniel_Rf ,  Jun 19, 2000
Pros: witty writing style, great characters
Cons: none I can think of right now
Review: For someone who lives in Portugal, comics are very hard to get. And you know that if you miss 3 issues of, say, “The Uncanny X-Men”, you´re bound to be completley lost (and things most probably have gotten worse). Thank Jar Jar for stand alone books!...

Death: The High Cost of Living, by Neil Gaiman

by   cdm72 ,  Feb 12, 2003
Pros: Neil Gaiman made Death hot.
Cons: A lot of people will miss it, just because it's a comic book.
The Bottom Line: Interesting to see Death outside the confines of a Sandman story.
Review: Listen: "One day in every century Death takes on mortal flesh, better to comprehend what the lives she takes must feel like, to taste the bitter tang of mortality: and this is the price she must pay for being the divider of the living from all that ...

A Day in the Death...

by   murasaki , top reviewer in Books at Epinions.com ,  Oct 15, 2000
Pros: Death gets top billing
Cons: Wasn't long enough!
Review: I have an uncanny knack, or curse rather, for stumbling upon the best of something: the best of a genre, the best team, the best production, the best food. The first time I watched a ballet (live), I had tickets to the Bolshoi Ballet Company performing...

True modern literature...

by   nobullox ,  Jun 1, 2001
Pros: Neil Gaiman, award winning author.
Cons: Too short.
The Bottom Line: This will be enjoyed by almost anyone. The art and story are great. A modern work of literature, far more than just a simple comic book.
Review: Background: I recently got back into Neil Gaiman's excellent comic book series, the Sandman by buying the Sandman: Book of Dreams at my local Media Play for $0.99. Don't ask me what they were thinking, it was even in hardcover. But that is neither...

Sandman Spinoffs For Goths 101

by   Delirium ,  Jan 11, 2000
Pros: Great art, great storytelling, great characters.
Cons: Not enough Delirium! :)
Review: Given that one of my favorite monikers on the Internet is Delirium, I hope you've figured out by now that I'm a bit of a Sandman fan. Well, a bit of a Gaiman fan in general.

Death used to be my favorite character, and is what got me into...

The High Cost of Bad Comics

by   Darkmistress ,  May 5, 2002
Pros: The mad Hettie sub plot
Cons: Didactic story, bad art, bad coloring.
The Bottom Line: Only for die hard fans who've accepted bad Sandman art.
Review: In a nutshell, Death: The High Cost of Living is slightly better than the average "don’t kill yourself" didactic with bad art and truly awful coloring.

Now for the longer explanation.

High Cost of Living came out at the peak of the...
