We just finished this book last night!

I have been reading to my four children since before there were four children! In fact, we just finished David Copperfield last night. I had always wanted to read the book myself, since it is considered a children's classic.

It was fast reading, and the kids loved it. I enjoyed it, too. There was an interesting cast of characters (some funny, some sad, some evil, some dumb, etc.) but not so many that we had a hard time keeping them straight. I think it's good to read books to kids about other time periods. In David Copperfield there are horse and carriages, candlesticks/lanterns, illnesses that cause death frequently, etc. This allows children to appreciate what they have and know that people have not always had these luxuries which are today taken for granted.

Although it covered the majority of David Copperfield's life, the years went quickly. It was not boring or dreary, and it did not seem to take "forever" to get somewhere. I would recommend this book for ages seven and up, older if the child will read it him/herself.
