The Da Vinci Code: A Masterpiece of a Mystery

Date of Review:  Jul 15, 2003
The Bottom Line: Keeps you guessing and thinking to the last page!
Review: I am a slow reader, but compared to my husband, I'm a veritable Speedy Gonazalez. He starts a book and, if he's really interested, he finishes it three weeks later. So when he finished reading The Da Vinci code in three days, I was impressed.

There's something for everyone

Date of Review:  Dec 18, 2003
The Bottom Line: Buy a used copy/ borrow it from a library. It's a nice book to read but it's just not worth paying full price for.
Review: The DaVinci code has a lot of things going for it that make it a real crowd pleaser. First off, it revolves around a conspiracy theory involving the Catholic church. The fact that religion could be less than sacrosanct appeals to nearly everyone.The...

John Grisham of the Religious World

Date of Review:  Dec 27, 2004
The Bottom Line: Fun in a trashy sort of way, but badly over-hyped.
Review: I have a childish and silly aversion to things which are stupidly popular- I'm not talking popular but popular in the way it sweeps the world and you cannot move three inches without running into it in one way or another. It is this immature...

National Treasure Repeat

Date of Review:  Aug 1, 2006
Review: If you have seen the movie National Treasure with Nicholas cage then you have seen basically the same story. Dan Brown almost plagiarised the plot which is weak at best. I figured out half way through the book "who done it." The chapters are too...

Page turning Renaissance mystery

Date of Review:  Dec 6, 2003
Review: A deftly written, enthralling mystery which gracefully entwines art history and religion into its subject matter. It even motivated me to learn a little more about art history and Da Vinci.

It may inflame some practicing Catholics but it...

An interesting novel that is rarely taken at face value

Date of Review:  Nov 18, 2005
The Bottom Line: A rich blend of vocabulary and creative timeline able to stir the conspiracy theorist in everyone. To what extent depends on the reader.
Review: There are over 100 reviews for this book already, but of the first dozen I read, none seemed to reflect how I felt about it. It's frightful how quick so many people are to forget that they're holding a novel. A good writer dreams of having such an...

The Da Vinci Code - fact, fiction, or just hype?

Date of Review:  Oct 18, 2005
The Bottom Line: To me, The Da Vinci Code was a disappointing thriller that completely failed to thrill.
Review: I have to admit, I only really read The Da Vinci Code out of curiosity. After all, few books in the past century have created as much fuss as this one. Seen by some as a beacon of truth and others as a scandalous attack on Christendom (particularly...

How to ruin a good novel

Date of Review:  Oct 28, 2003
The Bottom Line: Open your mind to other accounts of the origins of Christianity. Feel free to question, along with the author, the facts surrounding it.
Review: Why do authors think it necessary to make their books "action-packed"? I know, I know -- action books sell better, but where is the integrity?

This book has so much going for it, with the questioning of the roots of Christianity, the codes...

A Fictional Mystery

Date of Review:  Jul 31, 2006
Review: After listening to news reviews and reading church documentaries, I decided to read this book. It turned out to be at most a common fictional mystery.

The contents may not be for everyone, due to some intense verbalization of fictional...

With a little knowledge...a masterpiece

Date of Review:  Jan 5, 2005
The Bottom Line: An excellent book, pick it up and check it out! Check out literature on included topics...paganism, catholicism, Da Vinci's work.
Review: The da Vinci code is truly a classic thriller. Its plot is grasping, I just couldn't put it down when I started reading. A main point, it switches with alternating chapter from two exciting thrillers at once. Just when you think you have to read...
