The Calvin and Hobbes Tenth Anniversary Book: More than just Another Collection

by   JediKermit , top reviewer in Books at Epinions.com ,  Dec 20, 2003
Pros: Wonderful insight into the origins and inspirations of Calvin and Hobbes.
Cons: I would have liked 500 pages instead of 200.
The Bottom Line: If you like Calvin and Hobbes, this book is a MUST HAVE.
Review: Remember “Calvin and Hobbes?” Along with “Bloom County,” “The Far Side,” “Peanuts,” and “The Norm,” this is one of my favorite comic strips of all time. It had been a while since I had read any of my Calvin books, and when some friends recommended that ...

Ah, To Be 6 Forever

by   Sneil_IV ,  Dec 14, 2000
Pros: Calvin's Perspective, Watterson's Narration
Cons: Watterson Stopped Writing
Review: I miss the old days. Hell, I'm still basically living the old days, but I miss them nonetheless. I just arrived at college, and have found myself surrounded by people with agendas. They picked their major when they learned how to walk, and they are...

Calvin and Hobbes: A Boy and His Tiger

by   naphtalia ,  Mar 29, 2002
Pros: It's Calvin and Hobbes! What more do you want?
Cons: It's not long enough!
The Bottom Line: This is such fun. Everyone should own at least one Calvin and Hobbes book.
Review: A friend recently sent me a copy of the book Calvin and Hobbes. The book is a collection of cartoons by Bill Watterson. They are drawn from his syndicated cartoon strip "Calvin and Hobbes."

Calvin is a precocious, irreverant, hyperactive,...

Philosophy for Big Kids

by   thom413 ,  Jul 6, 2001
Pros: Very funny, sardonic, dry humor.
Cons: No new stuff - Bill Watterson retired.
The Bottom Line: Every day's an adventure when you're 6. Pick this up for some really entertaining laughs.
Review: Calvin stands over a sleeping Hobbes with a water balloon at the ready. Upon awakening, Hobbes gently queries, "If today were the last day of your life, would you do anything differently?" A pause. "Especially if, by doing things differently, today...

t-p¡n¡•n: tipu interviews Bill Watterson, creator of Calvin and Hobbes

by   tipu ,  Nov 18, 2001
Pros: File under: cannot be categorized
Cons: You try to draw and write a cartoon perfect from the start, Mr. Michelangelo Dickens!
The Bottom Line: Calvin and Hobbes introduces the earliest days of Bill Watterson’s devious duo. Required: signed certificate verifying a sense of imagination. A must have for long-term fans and fresh recruits.
Review: On November 18, 1985, Bill Watterson unleashed a hyper tot and his tiger friend upon some thirty-odd newspaper cartoon pages. Stretching the envelope of the comic strip art form from the start, Watterson breathed fresh air into an industry that had...

A Boy and His Tiger

by   Dani257 ,  Feb 4, 2001
Pros: Wit and deep feeling, all rolled up in a mischievous six year old
Cons: Same as everyone elses. Bill Watterson stopped writing.
The Bottom Line: The strips appealed to the child and the adult in all of us. This is a fine collection to help us remember.
Review: I'm coming to this review from a different perspective than others who have written about The Calvin and Hobbes Tenth Anniversary Book. While they seem to have been long devoted fans, I just recently (with this book in fact) realized the greatness of...

Just when you thought Calvin and Hobbes were no more...

by   Cahill ,  Dec 10, 2001
Pros: A new insight into an old favorite, C&H though the eyes of it's creator.
Cons: No new strips.
The Bottom Line: This book is essential to complete your collection- though you may have the strips in other collections, the commentary makes it all worthwhile.
Review: Just when you thought Calvin and Hobbes were no more

It was a sad day in 1996 when Calvin and Hobbes was put to rest. It was sadder still when new books stopped coming off the presses. But, at last there is another Calvin and Hobbes...

The Bottom Line: Buy this book immediately, comic strip fans.

The Calvin & Hobbes Tenth Anniversary Book: Solemn Wonder.

by   willbradbury ,  Jun 4, 2000
Pros: Full of quiet truth. Gorgeous drawings.
Cons: That Watterson no longer draws.
Review: There's no sedative like seeing a tiger lying in the sun.

"I Hate Baths" and "G.R.O.S.S"

by   Cahill ,  Apr 8, 2000
Pros: I don't know if I can list them all. this strip is funny, intuitive, and just the biggest laugh you can pack into a sunday paper... that is before 1996.
Cons: May not be the best thing for a child under 10 to get a hold of... it doesn't teach things appropriate for them, if they try to copy Calvin it could be a disaster =o)
Review: Calvin and Hobbes would have to be my favorite comic strip of all time. Not only is it funny and intuitive, but I was also a little like Calvin as a child. I received my first book for Christmas when I was eight yeas old. at the time I hated...
