Pros: Fantastic vision, scarily realistic, completely absorbing. Even more pertinent today than when it was written.
Cons: Not an easy read, not really recommended to anyone under 18 due to its complexity.
The Bottom Line: If you like your sci-fi intelligent and thought-provoking, this is a must.
Review: Brave New World by Aldous Huxley is one of the true science fiction giants. Good sci-fi is supposed to make you think; this book has the capacity not just to do that but to change your whole perspective on the human race. It concerns a ...

Is ours a Brave New World? |
|||
|
Pros: Satirical, chilling, relevant, and awfully clever.
Cons: Dark, somewhat forced conclusion.
The Bottom Line: This is an eerily predictive novel, the relevance of which is undiminished by time, and which is entirely deserving of its status as a modern classic.
Review: Teaser: Though it was written in 1932, Aldous Huxley's Brave New World remains as relevant and chilling today as it was 70 years ago. The Setup: My memory of it was rather hazy before I revisited it yesterday, as it had been ...

We must Stay Away from Huxley's Brave New World

Pros: Huxley "enslavement by pleasure" prophecy is ahead of its time.
Cons: This could really happen to us. Beware.
The Bottom Line: Huxley's warning from the book goes like this: Do not let yourself get enslaved to entertainment or collectivism for any reason.
Review: Aldous Huxley wrote this novel, undoubtedly the best work that will forever define him and his beliefs, to express his concern over what was happening to human and political values, especially in a time when technology was advancing rapidly and ...

Pros: A Terrifyingly Realistic Vision of the Future, Great Philosiphy, Truly a Classic
Cons: Not Much Story in Some Parts, Not For Everyone
The Bottom Line: Reviewers in Huxley's day bashed this book because it was ahead of its time, this book is quickly reaching its time but isn't there yet
Review: Aldous Huxley was a very, very smart man... there is no doubt about that at all. He was able to write a book all the way back in 1932 about a world environment that is just now beginning to become reality. Brave New World is a simply amazing book ...

Satirical Future

Pros: Vivid Details, Characters, Intensity, Speed
Cons: Age: Like Star Trek looses its value to most people over time.
The Bottom Line: Great details and vidid descriptions, made for reading by someone very interested. Should not be forced onto people in schools, they won't understand if they don't want to.
Review: Starting in my Grade 9 year I began to ask a question which seemed simple to me... rather than trying to find the 'meaning of life' I decided to go further. I made the assumption that we already knew the meaning, but no one would tell me for some reason...

Pros: Great prediction of the (our) future
Cons: No Monsters ! (some people need this in science fiction books)
Review: I had to read this book several years ago for my English class. After getting over the fact that it was a "must-read", I slowly noticed that this book is pretty good. After a while, it turned from "pretty good" to the best book I have...

Pros: An excellent cautionary tale which provides the reader with a maddening dystopia
Cons: Takes a few readings to fully comprehend
The Bottom Line: I you would enjoy a cautionary tale that provokes the mind with questions of dystopia and the destruction of the individual, this novel is most definitely for you.
Review: Many books, such as Aldous Huxley's classic "Brave New World" go beyond the scope of science fiction: they are also meant to be used as a cautionary tale, to warn the reader of future possibilities in daily life.

Pros: tells how gene therapy will affect humanity

Review: In the beginning you are confused. In the middle you are intrigued. In the end you are amazed.

Pros: Great read, entertaining, lots of soma...
Cons: none
Review: I stumbled across this book on the family bookshelf after some of the other kids in English class did a book report on it. I figured I might as well try it. I had managed to read at least half of 1984 after all.

Pros: A must read classic
Cons: You will be out of the loop if you don't read
The Bottom Line: An excellent book that you should definitely read since it fits the description of a classic to a tee and will leave you pondering.
Review: If you are not into science fiction, don't dismay. This book is deeper and well worth your time. It's about a futuristic world, that is eerily familiar to current times. The novel begins with a baby factory that is very similar to modern day fertility...
