I was expecting a lot when I bought this headset. I was hoping to finally find a headset that worked well outside and inside. What I found was a headset that doesn't work well anywhere.
First, the size is great. It fits nicely on your ear. It is sort of a cross of going in your ear canal and sitting completely outside. Actually, it just sort of snuggles into the opening. It feels secure and is not annoying to wear.
Incoming sound is fine. It is certainly loud enough and very clear. No complaints in that department.
But, outgoing sound quality is absolutely horrible. The unit has two modes, Standard & Max Isolation. In standard mode, I sound muffled and low in volume. If I switch it to Max Isolation mode, we add garbled to the mix. The headset is barely useable in standard mode and completely unuseable in Max Isolation mode.
In Max Isolation Mode, mode more ambient noise is supposed to be removed. I found the only thing it did was make my voice more choppy.
I called Blueant technical support who had me change some settings on my phone. It didn't make any difference at all.
Shortly after that, Blueant released firmware version 2, and then 2.2. I tried each one. Version 2 only added static to the mix. Version 2.2 removed the static.
My original Z9 was returned and replaced with another one. I have also tried it on another phone which was a completely different make and model - no difference.
I have tried and owned many other headsets and this is the only one that is totally unuseable. With a headset like the Samsung Wep200, I get crystal clear outgoing calls. With the Z9, I don't, not even close.
