Author's Review
Bloody Roar has been a popular Japanese fighting game franchise. This game was first introduced around 1997 to the Sony Playstation. Its success created a sequel on the Playstation. In 2001, the third installment was released on the next generation system the Playstation 2. Now, Bloody Roar experiences a special appearance on the Nintendo Gamecube with the title Bloody Roar Primal Fury. This version speeds past all the others in graphics and quality, but is it a true Bloody Roar game for franchise fans alike? I seriously doubt anyone could be disappointed.
Graphics
One may describe the graphics of Bloody Roar 3 for PS2 as astounding, superb, and of the highest quality. I would like to state that Primal Fury has it beat. Smooth textures and skins of the characters. The highest quality character I have seen has to be Xion's transformation into an unborn, a metallic winged fallen angel of many sharp weapons. Only one polygon was spotted upon this character, and it is too tiny to notice. Everything from the hair and clothes of a character, to the facial expressions, to the transformation of skin to fur, you will be blown away. The anime cut-scenes are also worth a look. Each character has a special anime ending. Wonderful quality on this Hudson!
Music
The music in this game fits well with the rest of the series. Most of the music consists of punk to hard rock, with a mix of techno once in a while. However, the music is nothing special. I'd prefer to hear the profound remixes of old Nintendo tunes on Super Smash Brothers Melee or the theatrical pieces in Rogue Leader.
Gameplay
The fighting system for Primal Fury is remarkable. One can pull off simple 5 hit combos with the simple push of a button, or they can perform a devestating 20 hit combo with advanced skills and creations. One of the more enjoyable aspects to the game is, of course, beast mode. You can transform into a character's corrpesponding beast. Yugo becomes a wolf, Bakuryu becomes a mole, Xion becomes an unborn, etc. When in beast form, you can perform a powerful attack called a beast drive. These bright-colored combos of death give off large amounts of damage to the opponent. The downfall is that you revert to human form after using this move unless you're in hyper beast mode. However, the move is just plain cool looking, so why not use it? The game has a defense system, but it lacks greatly since the game moves so fast. You're either offensive or dead in this game.
Lastibility
This game has 4 secret characters, a load of new modes, new stages, and plenty of anime cut-scenes to unlock. It will take you a while before you get tired of this game.
Overall
The game is an impressive sequel to the older Bloody Roar games. Graphics and music are improved, the gameplay is tolerable. Overall, an excellent fighting game to anyone's up and coming Gamecube collection.
