You wanna mobile phone that makes you mobile?

Date of Review: Jul 9, 2005

The Bottom Line:  I like to conduct business with this phone and it easy to use. Nice PDA/phone blend.
Alright, I am the first to admit I don't a thing about technology. I can't operate a DVD player, GPS thingy, or anything else complicated. If you look at my other reviews I am a simple conservative guy that knows how to do two things really well, make my wife mad and get lost.

So here is a shot at my being techy (is that even spelled right?).

The Blackberry 7230 I have is through TMobile. I like the phone. It is easy to use and I love the color blue. The phone has a great blend of PDA technology with the fact that it IS a phone. I had a Palm Tungsten E before this and I transferred all my Palm data to Outlook and then synched my Outlook stuff to the Blackberry. It was very easy to do and took about 20-30 minutes.

The phone has a great battery life. I use about 4000 minutes a month and if you break that out into minutes per day and all that stuff I get a full day of talking on it and can go most of the next day without a charge. I send about 10 emails a day from it and read about 10-20 per day on it. I also play Brickbreaker about 1 hour a day (read on).

The emails are great. They are in the same format you would see on your Outlook desktop. You can open PDF (although pictures don't show up), Word Documents, Excel Spreadsheets, and regular pictures (.gif, .jpg).

The calendar works fine and is a little difficult to get used to but I like it. The address book is amazing and I have about 1500 contacts in it. There is a tasks and memo pad section with the ability to categorize things, etc.

The Blackberry I have checks two emails, my personal one so I can see all the emails from Epinions' users who love me and my work one so I can see all the people that hate me. I can also read my wife's emails about the crap she buys.

There is an alarm, calculator, and pictures section. I have to admit I have never used the pictures section but the calculator is a nice feature. It would be great if it had a bunch of financial formulas but it doesn't so I carry another one around when I have to calculate how much money my wife spends on purses.

There is a search button on the thing that can search contacts, emails, documents, etc. by keywords or names.

The phone quality is a little too sensitive. If someone else has a speakerphone they will not really be able to hear you as the microphone on the Blackberry picks up everything and doesn't allow them to speak. It even picks up bodily functions so be careful. Also, the phone doesn't have speakerphone.

I did notice the phone has an Infrared port but it is inoperable.

This phone lacks Bluetooth but I don't care. Isn't the whole reason you want a Blackberry to get away from your wireless computer. I also don't buy those Bluetooth headsets because I have enough garbage to charge. It seems that I have to charge everything these days from my computer to my toothbrush!

Also, this phone comes with a game called Brickbreaker which my wife says I love more than her. It is so addicting I am about to hire a poolboy so I can play it all day. I don't even have a pool, if you know what I mean.

Oh yeah, this thing works all over the world.

Overall I love my Blackberry and my wife hate's it because I use it so much.

They should have called this phone the "Get Things Done Machine" but I like Blackberry too.
