Pros:  easy to use, cleans up great, compact and very light weight.

Cons:  None

The Bottom Line:  There is nothing better than homemade waffles with your own recipe, and they are a lot of fun to do as well.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

I recently purchased the "Black & Decker" Belgian Waffle Maker as I was sick of tired of trying to make frozen, cardboard tasting microwave waffles.

The Black & Decker Waffle Maker model WMB500 makes the best tasting waffles we have ever made.
These waffles come out of the waffle maker so light and tender.
They are nothing like the ones that are frozen that you cook in the microwave.
The most important factor to me is that I make the recipe from scratch and I know what ingredients are in the batter.

The waffle maker by Black & Decker is so easy to operate.
All you have to do is plug it in and wait for the ready light to go out, then you fill the waffle with your batter and you are done.

Cooking time takes between 4-5 minutes.
During this time it is better if you do not lift the lid as this will cause the batter to stick making an awful mess.

You can tell after 4 minutes if the waffle is browned enough for you and if not all you have to do is return the lid and it will continue cooking.

I have found that when the waffles are done the way my husband likes them, I can shut of the waffle maker and keep it warm until he is ready to eat them, this will ensure that the waffle stays warm without any further cooking.
Something that can not be done with microwave waffles as once they are cooked if you don't eat them immediately they can get as hard as a board.

I can make my batter any way that I desire as long as I start with the basic recipe.
My Grandson loves to add chocolate chips or blueberries to the batter and this is quite easy to do, all you do is add them before cooking.

The waffle maker has a very short cord which is quite a great idea as this will not get the cord twisted and there is no fear of anyone tripping over a long electric wire.

The waffle maker has to be conditioned the
first time that you use it.
First you heat up the waffle maker until the ready light goes out then all you have to do is to rub the nonstick surface with cooking oil and remove any excess with a paper towel.
This conditioning will ensure that that the waffles do no stick to the maker.

The recipe that I use is the one that comes with the waffle maker, except that I add a few changes that me family like.

Crisp and Golden Waffles
1 egg
2 cups of all purpose flour
1/4 cup of vegetable oil
1/1/2 cups of milk
3 tablespoons of sugar(my husband is a diabetic so I use sugar twin for him, works well)
3 teaspoons of baking powder
1/4 teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon of vanilla

To make them different I sometimes add blueberrys or chocolate chips, sometimes cinnamon or brown sugar for a different taste.
I flour the chips and fruit a little so that they do not float in top and mix well.

Mix all ingredients in a bowl.
Add 2/3 batter to waffle maker, spread around evenly.
Cook until done to likeness.
When finished I heat pancake syrup which adds more flavor then when put on cold.
My grandson likes powdered sugar instead, or jelly or whipped cream.

Clean up is very easy, all you have to do is wait until the unit has cooled down, then wipe the area with a damp sponge.

I would recommend this waffle maker to anyone who likes homemade waffles that are made fresh from your own recipes and that contain ingredients that you alone put in without any chemical or unknown additives.
