Author's Review

Being a homeowner with not just two small children aged six and two but also three dogs, we knew that our carpet was going to need frequent cleanings to maintain the beauty that it had when it was first installed.

We researched the other products on the market and decided on the Bissell ProHeat Pro-Tech Vacuum. Why? Well, the main deciding factor was the sale price but we'd also heard positive feedback from several of our friends.

Upon opening the box, some light assembly was required, taking the man of the house only 15 minutes during which he was interrupted by the children a couple times.

We were both thrilled that the cleaning solution and water were in seperate tanks. Immediately after the assembly was completed, we had to try out our new toy. First we vacummed the carpet with our regular vacuum cleaner to pick up any carpet fibers that may have been loosened from the additional traffic in our home since we'd just moved in. Then it was on to the ProHeat. After filling both tanks and turning on the heating element, we waited a few minutes for the water to warm. We then started cleaning our carpet for the first time (we've had the carpet for nearly a year but had just moved into the house a few weeks before).

We were both absolutely amazed at how much dirt it pulled out of the carpet. I imagine it was also pulling dirt out from the tile under the carpet the water was so dirty. Many of the carpet cleaners that we've rented in the past for our old home would leave the carpet feeling quite damp and somewhat sticky feeling after a shampoo, not this little gem. The carpet did have a slightly damp feel to it, but after about 30 minutes it felt completely dry to my bare feet.

Because of the nearly excessive family/animal/neighborhood kid traffic that we experience in our home, we like to try to clean the carpet on a weekly basis and this machine keeps up with that along with saving us the cost of a one day rental of a carpet cleaner.

If you needed any other bonuses to this great product, the onboard attachments are great for cleaning the upholstry on your furniture. Little man (our two year old) decided that he needed to paint our chair with acrylic paint, after I'd caught him I was sure that the chair was ruined. That wasn't so at all. We loaded up the ProHeat with a small amount of solution and water and went to work on the cushion and arm of the chair. Neither of us thought it would take out the stains but we figured it was worth a try. After the upholstry dried after our best effort, we both thought we'd still be able to see where the paint had been. You can't tell at all that he painted our chair with the exception of a paint splatter on the wooden portion of the chair arm.
