Completely Awesome!
Date of Review: Feb 13, 2007
The Bottom Line: Save some money and go with the Bissell Healthy Home over the Dyson. You'll get much better performance and quality!!
I bought the Bissell Healthy Home yesterday after initially buying the Dyson DC17 Animal and being so disappointed in the performance. I wish I had just gone with this one from the get go. I spent a few weeks comparing the two, reading reviews, asking people I know that may have one or the other but ended up with Dyson because of how long I had wanted one. For vacuuming just the flat carpeted areas it was great but when it came to the attachment hose and attachments, it failed miserably.
That's when I decided to go with the Bissell. I owned a Cleanview 2 for years and always loved it so I know the Bissell brand and trust it, I shouldn't have questioned that. I got the Bissell home and was amazed at what it picked up that Dyson did not. It even runs quieter than the Dyson! After vacuuming my whole house, I decided to try the turbo brush to compare it to Dyson's. WOW! MUCH BETTER!! I had vacuumed an old computer chair we have that has become one of my cats sleeping spots with the Dyson, it only up maybe half of what was on there after repeated 3 times. The Bissell however, got every single hair off it effortlessly! And since there is no must use long extender hose to use attachments, it makes it much easier to vacuum furniture and such.
The Bissell is about the same weight as the Dyson, maybe a bit heavier but not much and it doesn't glide along as easily but for how much better of performance it is, it's well worth it! It is still very easy to vacuum with.
UPDATE: I was asked to add more details about the attachments so here goes:
The hose on the Bissell is very long, I can easily reach the 12th stair before having to even move the vacuum.
With the extended reach attachment, I can vacuum all 14 steps while leaving the vacuum at the comfort of the bottom step. VERY helpful!!
The turbo brush is downright amazing. It has a lot more speed than the turbo brush with the Dyson and much more suction power. Very easy to vacuum mattresses and furniture and you don't have to worry about it missing anything because it gets it all - without tearing up anything and without skipping out like I noticed happened on the Dyson.
The crevice tool is long and gets the same suction as the other attachments as well. The onboard storage for attachments is secure for all of the attachments and very handy. The Dyson lacks this storage and what does store onboard, doesn't stay secure.
The cord wrap for the Bissell is much more durable than that on the Dyson. The Dyson cord wraps are flimsy plastic rubbery feeling pieces that feel as if they could break easily. Bissel doesn't fail here either in that the wraps are very secure and sturdy.
Everything about the Bissell Healthy Home is far superior to the Dyson!
